Standard wooden Cuisenaire Rods in a practical wooden box
Viga Wooden Maths Rods Set: Lovely set of wooden Cuisenaire Rods. I like working with Cuisenaire Rods because of all the possibilities to practically apply maths problems. These keep what they promise: they are wooden and nicely painted in the traditional Cuisenaire colours as would be expected. I personally prefer wood to plastic so I like them. There are lots of white ones but very few of the longer ones so you cannot make a square just from the orange, blue, or brown ones (i.e. using just one colour), which I thought was a bit wanting. There are only 6 each of the orange, blue and brown ones. (10 of the black, dark green, and yellow ones, 12 pink ones, 36 light green and red ones each and the rest is white) I would prefer to have at least 10 tens, 9 nines, and 8 eights but other than that they are okay. I am contemplating getting another box because of this. They are quite small so very young children might have problems handling them but most people use them for primary school age up. I like to use them with pre-schoolers because it gets them used to maths in a playful way and I stress that they are a toy so they don't get stressed out later when they find out it is maths they have been doing with them all along. I'd like a bigger version of these that would be easier to handle; however, traditionally 1cm is the standard size for Cuisenaire rods because it makes sense from a mathematical point. I reckon that anyone going for Cuisenaire Rods wants just that and this is what you get in a practical wooden box with an easy to slide out clear plastic cover.

Fun and educational
My child really enjoys playing with these. Day by day we can take that play and start discussing mathematical concepts Bigger or smaller? How many white ones make a orange one? Pretty much every primary maths concept can be explained using these as a visual aide. Brilliant price, great quality and I feel like buying more. If you have a child under 5, you should get this to give them a good start to mathematical thinking.

I am 68 but still see Cuisenaire rods in my head when I add up as I had a set in the 50s.
Fantastic! My parents bought me cuisenaire in the 50s and, aged 68, I still see the coloured rods in my head when I am adding up. It helps I am sure. My kids used the set occasionally as I wasn't able to find any to buy in the 80s to have at home. Now they have kids of their own they have asked for the set! I have bought 2 sets now so there are enough for each little family of the next generation! The "ones" are painted white as opposed to the plain wood of my original set and I would have preferred a few more of the longer rods. However it's a nice set in a useful box. We had a couple of books to go with the set when I was I child, but sadly they are no longer around. There didn't seem to be anything useful or reasonably priced in the way of books available on the Internet, which is a shame. Perhaps someone could produce a reasonably priced one suitable for families at home. However you don't really need the books, the joy is in the pattern making and the inherent use of mathematics in pattern making "playing" with basic arithmetic. Get a set for your primary age kids... They will love it.

These are fantastic. I have used them both as a parent ...
These are fantastic. I have used them both as a parent and a teacher. They are super to use in the classroom and there are enough rods in the box to work with a group of 6 children. Box is very useful for storage. I would buy more of these.

Very good
Brilliant and much cheaper than the actual cuisenaire brand. Probably to get round being an exact copy the ‘twos and tens’ are the same colour, red. I got some orange paint and painted the tens orange as in the official Cuisenaire sets.

Absolutely wonderful product
I bought these for my 4 year old daughter to help her develop her months skills. These do a great job as a visual aid to help her understand numbers and simple mathematical functions. I also love that they are made of wood rather than plastics nd they seem like they might last for many many years.

A great resource.
Excellent quality for the price. Wooden pieces more tactile than plastic ones I’ve used in the past. Will be well used. A nice wooden box with lid to keep everything tidy.

Cheap and great
This is a great set. Having seen the prices of alternative wooden sets with far fewer pieces, I was expecting these to be cheap and cheerful, so I was very pleasantly surprised by the quality. OK, so they're not hand-carved mahogany; they are mass produced from some unspecified light-ish wood, but they are mostly perfect and the stand up well to use. There are 3 or 4 slightly malformed ones in my set (all 1's, of which there are plenty anyway). The storage box is nice, too.
