Very informative
While doing a Level 4 Holistics course, I was recommended this book for the aromatherapy segment of the course. I found this book very useful, containing information on all the major oils. Nicely illustrated too, I would recommend it for anyone studying aromatherapy.

A useful vademecum for anyone interested in essential oils
While the book provides a wealth of information about the origins, spread, characteristics and common use of essential oils, the author would add considerable value and meaning to it if she expanded the "Safety Data" section for each of them. Examples:- Which oils should be avoided by people taking anti-coagulant medication?- Which oils are dangerous for people suffering from hormono-dependent cancers?- Which ones risk interacting negatively with other medication?- Which ones are not recommended for people with kidney problems?- Which ones would negatively affect existing high blood pressure?

A good introduction
An easy read which explains everything for an introduction to using essential oils and blending. Information is accurate.

the book of all 'scents'
Julia Lawless is a very intelligent author in her field, she's made sure that her list is as detailed as possible, I don't love the book, but the more i read it, i read it more,, it seems to be addictive for knowledge on essential oils, and talks about the botanical names at the end, i don't like this book as much as her illustrated verion, but i am glad i bought it and will not be reselling it,I 100% reccommed the book and gave it 5 stars because in all honesty its very informative, i just don't like how black and white it is, its just a lot of writing which can be off putting to someone who enjoys visual books, hence why i love her illustrated verion, its picturesque but the images do not distract from the whole point of the book, what i would recommed is to get both this one and the illustrated version, they sought of go hand in hand if you like.

Highly recommended for everyone
This book is for the people who are serious about aromatherapy. 190 essential oils in A to Z presentation, the uses of each plant at home and common recipes and ways in which they can be applied for the massages, skin lotions, compresses, hair care, flower water, baths, vaporization, inhalation, douche, neat applications and internal use, rules for oils blending. The best part of the book is the therapeutic index with the list of the common medical problems, oils and forms of treatment of these problems. Excellent book, one negative moment - there is no colourful pictures of the plants but just black and white drawings. 5 stars for the useful information.

Fabulous essential oil refrence book!
Great refrence for the oils themselves. Has a nice bit of background information about oils, though just a brief overview. The most valuable part of this book is the refrence list of oils in the back part of the book (and makes up the majority of the book). If you are looking for recipes you would be better suited to look into one of her other books, but if you want a great refrence for the oils themselves; their latin and common names, as well as a brief history and their properties - this is the book to get!
