Very strong, sharp snips with clean cuts and excellent value
I picked up these Stanley FatMax straight cut aviation snips for £11.95, which is exceptional value for a tool of this quality. I bought them for general shed and DIY work where I needed something more capable than basic tin snips. Ease of cutting is a big strength. The compound action works exactly as intended, making it easy to cut through tougher materials without excessive hand force. They don’t feel like you’re fighting the tool, even when cutting thicker sheet or wire mesh. Cut quality is very good. The blades are sharp and stay on line, producing clean, controlled cuts rather than tearing or deforming the material. This makes a noticeable difference when accuracy matters, especially on straight cuts. Sturdiness is exactly what you’d expect from the FatMax range. They feel solid and confidence-inspiring, with no flex in the handles or blades. Everything about them suggests they’re built for regular use rather than occasional light duty. Comfort is also good. The grips are well shaped and provide a secure hold, even when applying more force. They’re comfortable enough to use for longer sessions without hand fatigue becoming an issue. Overall, these are sharp, strong, and easy to use snips that deliver clean cuts and feel built to last. At £11.95, the value for money is excellent and hard to fault.

Tough, precise, and built to last
I recently picked up these Stanley Aviation Snips for a DIY metal sheeting project, and they have been absolutely superb. Whether you’re cutting aluminium, sheet metal, or tough plastics, these snips are built for heavy use and deliver clean, reliable cuts every time. Out of the box, the first impression is of quality. The tool feels substantial and solid, but not overly heavy — a good weight that offers both control and cutting power. The handles are comfortable, coated with a grippy rubber that sits well in the hand even after extended use. No slipping, pinching, or blisters here. The straight cut design is perfect for long, straight cuts or gentle curves. I used them extensively on aluminium roofing sheets and some galvanised steel panels for a garden project, and they sliced through cleanly without tearing or deforming the material. You get a nice, clean edge with minimal burrs, which saves time on post-cut smoothing. The spring-loaded mechanism makes repeated cuts much easier on the hand — you don't have to apply constant pressure just to keep the jaws open. A simple lock keeps them safely shut when not in use, which is a thoughtful feature for storage and safety. The cutting blades themselves are sharp, strong, and maintain their edge well. After slicing through metres of metal sheet, there’s no visible dulling, chipping, or loosening at the pivot point. They still feel tight and precise. One very small point — if you’re working with very thick steel or industrial gauge metal, you might want to invest in specialist heavy-duty snips, but for standard sheet metal, roofing work, ducting, or DIY repairs, these are absolutely spot-on. In summary, the Stanley Straight Cut Aviation Snips are tough, comfortable, and brilliantly effective. A great addition to any DIYer's or tradesperson’s toolbox. Highly recommended!

Seems OK, does the job
Bough these to replace my old ones that had stopped cutting properly. They come pretty sharp, enough to easily cut metal angle bead for plastering. They also are great for cutting plastic packers for general building work. I will update this review in a few months.

Precision cutting power
One of the standout features of the Stanley Aviation Snips is their cutting precision. The straight-cut design allows for clean and accurate cuts in a variety of materials, including sheet metal, aluminum, vinyl siding, and more. The sharp, heat-treated blades deliver excellent cutting performance, ensuring smooth and precise results every time. Whether you’re working on a construction project or tackling metalworking tasks, these snips provide reliable and consistent cutting performance. The snips’ build quality is remarkable. The blades are crafted from high-quality steel, which ensures durability and longevity. They can withstand heavy use and resist wear, maintaining their sharpness for extended periods. The robust construction of the snips enhances their overall stability and gives them a solid feel in hand, inspiring confidence during cutting operations. The ergonomic design of the Stanley Aviation Snips contributes to their user-friendly nature. The comfortable handle with a non-slip grip provides excellent control and reduces hand fatigue, even during prolonged use. The snips’ compact size allows for maneuverability in tight spaces and facilitates easy storage when not in use. The spring-loaded mechanism of the snips enhances their efficiency and ease of use. The self-opening action reduces the effort required for repetitive cutting tasks, allowing for increased productivity and reduced strain on the hand and wrist. The locking mechanism keeps the blades securely closed when not in use, ensuring safe storage and preventing accidental cuts. I would highly recommend as I am happy to add this to my toolbox.

Well built and look like they will last
I've been wanting a pair of snips and saw these whilst looking what was available. They are a heavier weight (i.e. well made rather than too heavy to use) than I expected. I shouldn't have been surprised because the quality is what one would expect of Stanley.
