Great Tasting Country Ham
Ok So this is not A Prosciutto folks, this is a Country Ham, if the difference is not know to you please do a simple Google Search to find out as you will be disapointed when you receive it. This product is on the salty side so again if Salt is not your thing then this Ham is not for you. For a Country Ham this is a great product and at a great price and can be used in a lot of different dishes. I have ordered this a few times and usually just share it with my family as it is a lot of meat and but for the price its worth getting the whole darn thing. Again this is not PROSCIUTTOBelow is some information on what a Country Ham is from Wikipedia:"Country ham is a variety of cured ham, typically very salty. Country ham is first mentioned in print in 1944, referring to a method of curing and smoking done in the rural parts of North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Georgia, Kentucky and other nearby Southern states. Virginia ham is a country ham produced in Virginia[1] (including the more-precisely-defined Smithfield ham); whereas "VA Style" refers to a curing style, not a location""Country hams are salt-cured (and occasionally nitrite- and nitrate-cured) for one to three months. They may be hardwood (usually hickory and Red Oak) smoked, then aged for several months to 2–3 years, depending on the fat content of the meat.[3] Country hams are not fully cooked, but preserved by the cure. Smoking is not a legal requirement: some types of country ham, such as the "salt-and-pepper ham" of North Carolina, are not smoked. Smoking turns the meat a much redder color than unsmoked hams. They are usually sold in stores unrefrigerated as whole, bone-in hams packaged in rough cotton bags, with identifying markings printed on the bags. Country ham is also sold in presoaked, sliced, ready-to-cook form, usually vacuum-packaged.?

SO SALTY WE COULDN'T EAT IT. NO FLAVOR TO SPEAK OF.
WE CHOSE THIS HAM BECAUSE OF THE PRODUCTS REVIEW AND BECAUSE THEY SAID IT WAS "SLIGHTLY SALTY"!!!! THEY REALLY MISSED THE BOAT ON THAT ONE. IT IS SOOO SALTY, WE COULDN'T EAT IT, UNLESS MY HUSBAND RINSED AND SMASHED THE MEAT, TRYING TO GET OUT AS MUCH OF THE SALT AS POSSIBLE. HE FOUND OUT HOW TO DE-SALT A TOO SALTY HAM ON THE INTERNET. REALLY DIDN'T WORK, AND HIS HANDS HURT AFTERWARDS. SO, IF YOU ARE WATCHING YOUR SALT AS WE ARE, OR FOR GENERAL HEALTH REASONS, DON'T BUY THIS HAM. WISH WE COULD SEND IT BACK TO "RUFUS BROWN" JOHNSTON COUNTRY HAMS "SMOKE MASTER". EVIDENTLY HE DOESN'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT HOW MUCH SALT SHOULD BE IN ANY FOOD TO BE SAFE TO EAT!!!THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH AMAZON, THEY ARE A GOOD COMPANY, BUT SHOULD WARN THEIR CUSTOMERS ABOUT THE SALTINESS OF THIS HAM. OH YES, IF ANYONE HAS BOUGHT A COSTCO SPIRIAL SLICED HAM AND THOUGHT IT WAS SALTY, IT IS NOTHING COMPARED TO THIS JOHNSTON HAM!!! THE ONLY GOOD THING I CAN SAY IS THAT THE HAM WAS VERY, VERY LEAN. VERY SURPRISED!

extremely salty
It ships from North Carolina and was received on time. It could probably be dropped from a plane without damage. I cooked it according to the directions on the bag and it was extremely salty. It also has a different flavor and will fill the house with a slightly unpleasant smell when baking. Most of us, some are ham fans, thought it was fair at best. Considering the cost it isn't twice as good as a store ham. I would not buy it again.

Good but not the best
Pretty good but a different taste. My parents were given this as a gift, they liked it but said they had tasted better

Great Country Ham, Great Price
I really recommend this ham for anyone looking for a quality American country ham. Delicious, highly recommended. The price is very reasonable all things considered. This is a home style product, not the mass produced wet things we can find in the supermarket. A real flavor difference if you have only ever had "city ham".

I am Very Unlpesantly Surprised
I gave this gift to a friend of mine in New York. He cooked it for ten hours. It was inedible, and he ended up throwing it out. It was very disappointing. He soaked it for three days. I do not understand what could have gone wrong.

So..so
I'll give it a 2. It was ok, not great. Carved some for procuttio and it was decent. Fried some...insanely salty, need to probably soak before doing that. Probably best option for this is as a seasoning for soups and beans. All in all a let down...better products out there.

Great!!
I was a little leary of ordering a ham via mail but must say everything was excellent. Shipping was on time, quality was as good as advertised. A definite "splurge" (especially with the high shipping cost) but will get another one next Christmas.
