A combi drill for life
I have been a DIYer all of my life, and have owned a number of electric drills. But my biggest mistake was not buying one of these earlier in my 'career'. The one I have is actually around 10 years old, and I have loved it (and used it from picture hanging to house renovation) since the moment it arrived. So when my son and his partner bought their first home, I had no hesitation in sending them the same model so that they would have the right tool from the start. They have already built a garden shed and a summerhouse using it!This version came with a 5Ah battery; mine had 2 x 1Ah. 5Ah is definitely preferable! The difference in weight is hardly noticeable - the drill is always well balanced - but the extra capacity is great. The batteries charge quickly, but its still a nuisance to have to stop and change in the middle of a job. 5Ah will see you through most projects. One thing to note - this is a drill that can drive screws, so it has its limitations. If you want to sink size 12 100mm screws deep into wood without drilling a pilot hole, you will need a dedicated impact driver like the 153. But for most round the house and garden jobs, its ideal. And it will last.

Great multi fnction drill
Having just used this drill for the first time, my first impressions are it is very solidly build but does mean it seems quite heavy to hold. The torque in comparison to my previous domestic Bosch cordeless is considerably more powerful however the hammer setting is not as good as my mains hammer drill as you would expect but adequate for light concrete drilling. So drilling and screw functiona exceptional, hammer not so great. For the price it is a very good multi functional tool.

it looks like a good drill but I came to charge it ...
This arrived today, it looks like a good drill but I came to charge it as i needed to use it straight away. It comes with a European plug. It's Sunday late afternoon and I can't go buy an adapter. If I'd known it wasn't an English plug I would not have bought it. Not convenient at all to make sure you have an adaptor too!

Buyer Beware!
Buyers beware! Not sure how this company achieved their positive feedback. Here is my experience: Purchased this drill a few days ago and received yesterday. I charged the battery and tested to ensure the drill worked ok. After running for about 10 seconds there was a horrible burning smell and sparks coming from the back of the drill. I requested it to be returned as faulty and received an unpaid return label!! I decided to check out the company and found their website and was horrified to find the same product for considerably less than Amazon. This is copied and pasted from their site: Makita DHP453SF 18v Cordless LXT Combi Drill 1x 3.0Ah Li-ion Battery & Charger £129.99 inc. VAT Versus Amazon price £152.95
