6 L Water Fountain replacement carbon cartridge

I buy these quite regularly, as my dog needs to drink (other than from the toilet bowl... daft dog just doesn't like water that has been standing for more than half an hour *sigh* thus the wonderful Dogit water system suits him - and me - very well :))Unfortunately the filters don't last as long as I would like - so thought I would add a couple of things I do to extend the life of each filter.First is... rather obvious: when topping up water, don't just top up, empty it all out, wash and rinse all thoroughly, when doing that don't scrunch up the filter as they then shed carbon bits into your beasties water, but you can give it a good rinse to help keep it clean.The other thing I do - is just like I clean my dishclothes, stick the filter into a bag (don't close it) and then stick it in the microwave for circa 40 secs - kills off any bacteria. Let it cool and rinse thoroughly.I did try soaking the filter in a Milton sterilization tablet (stuff you use to clean baby bottles with), then rinsing of course, but found the filter discoloured and the carbon disintegrated quickly - again resulting in 'bits' ending up in beasties water.Of course maybe no one else has a dog who dribbles back into the water system and therefore it's only me who is washing the system out every few days and worrying about bacteria....

This is a fantastic product! I bought it after our pup was constantly upending her water bowl and "digging" in it. I wanted something where her ability to get at the water reserve was restricted. This works brilliantly! She can't dig at the water anymore but also she just loves it as she now has constant access to fresh, flowing water (her constant digging in her normal water bowl meant she'd often get debris in it)! She thinks it's great and only took about 10 mins for her to get used to it. Assembly is easy (mine actually came pre-assembled to a certain degree, didn't have to do the first few steps). The fountain also makes a gentle trickling noise all day long, which is fantastic to listen to in the background! I can't recommend this highly enough!

So my main issue with this is that it's not a direct replacement for the filter that came with the original. To get the original out I had to year it off the fountain not good enough from the manufacture

These filters do trap everything that gets into the surface water so they are really effective. I change the filters every 4 - 5 weeks as the Foam part of the filter can become weak and one did split due to making sure it was properly rinsed, also the charcoal part of the filter only seems to last until then. My dog drinks loads of water and the cats drink from it too, even though I have bought them their own one which they use periodically, so because there are quiet a few animals that drink from this regularly I change the filters accordingly. They are rather expensive if you work it out over a year and it would be nice if someone could sell them cheaper.

If you got a dogit drinking fountain, you don't havea choice of replacement filters to choose from.So you are stuck buying these, bit like ink cartridgeswith some printers.The price needs to be more realistic, hence 4 stars.The filters can be rinse thoroughly and reused, but willneed replacing after a while. We have one Lab and filterwill last 2 months.For those with more than one dog it could end up expensive.You could end up paying same amount for filters in a year,as you would for a new fountain.I will be looking for a more economical replacement, ifI find any I will update.

Expensive for what they are but do keep the water free of doggy detritus. On the downside, the carbon part of the filter tends to fragment leaving bits of charcoal in the reservoir and the fit leaves a bit to be desired. If you follow the instructions and fill the reservoir to the maximum level the filter tends to float!

Bought these replacement filters for my Dogit fountain. They came very quickly and with 3 in a pack were not bad value for money. The Dogit fountain is loved by my dogs and the cat who wont use his other make of fountain so we have had to buy him the cat equivalent of this the Catit fountain! (so got to buy more filters for that too now!) So can recommend the fountain and because its well used here, I dont really have a choice about buying the filters!
