The smell of my childhood!
I always struggle to find my Dad a gift as he's an older man who already has lots of the typical things that we all buy the men in our lives for example, electrical items, clothes, shoes, personalised gifts of various varieties, and a whole shelf of different designer perfumes. But when I came across this, my oh my did it bring back memories! My mum always purchased the men's Jovan musk cologne, deodorant ect, for my Dad as Birthday or Christmas gifts from me and my brother when we were growing up. I remember those days of being so excited when my Dad unwrapped his presents from me, (even though obviously I was too young to pay for them myself). I was still so happy that he knew it was from me. He always tested them on himself straight away, and made a big deal out of how happy he was for this gift. I remember that smell and how it lasted for ages in the air. Those were happy day's. So, as soon as I saw this, I knew I had to get it for his upcoming birthday. He was over the moon and laughed when I reminded him of those happy day's. The smell lasts ages, the price was very good value for the bottle size that you get. I love the smell, it always reminds me of how simple and good life was!

The colognes scent acts as a presence without being too strong and off putting it a subtle and sweet scent. I have been using it for 2 weeks now with roughly 4 sprays each morning and I have barely even dented the bottle! I find that the spray doesn't seem to last throughout the day however. I have now finished this bottle over 6months later and I will be buying again as it was very goood.

Polarising
It's been many years since I last got my nose over Jovan's Musk, and at just under £10 for a reasonably, but not stellar-sized 88ml bottle, it's not exactly an expensive proposition to try out. The box is basic, but does the job, the bottle -yes, it's ghastly. Not light, I'll say that for it, and still glass, which is more than can be said for some, with a flimsy plastic cap and the world's cheapest looking atomiser: no expense spent, or thought given, other than the useful fact that it works. Pressurised it isn't, but it sprays the liquid. Which at the end of the day is the point. The scent is- Hmm. 1970s? Yes, clearly, and that's not a bad thing -plenty of excellent scents, both affordable and more expensive came out of that decade. The marketing back in the day, especially for the 'oil' [no less] variation was less than subtle, politically incorrect [possibly], and about as realistic as the storyline of a soap opera. The fragrance itself is -polarising. For me, the opening is vile, not to put too fine a point on it. Not unlike urinal-cakes, unfortunately, suggesting there is some civet in there, along with some sharp, rather synthetic citrus topnotes. People make that remark [civet] about YSL's epic Kouros too -one of my long-standing favourite 'expensive' scents and curiously, I've never really found that myself, even though it's undoubtedly got some animalic background behind it's thunderous fougere opening and performance. I certainly do detect that characteristic here though, very obviously, and enjoyable it is not. Will it react differently on somebody else, I wonder? Possibly. But it's potent, distinct, overpowering, and definitely one to keep a close watch on. Interestingly, that opening only lasts a couple of minutes though, before Musk settles down, with much of that note dissipating, into a relatively simple, slightly sweet, very slightly animalic / 'dirty' musk, which continues, with little development, into the drydown. It hangs about for a while on skin or clothing, despite the cologne strength [producers of supposed EDP or indeed parfum strength fragrances take note] -it doesn't project massively, but lingers long as a skin scent, and one much more enjoyable than the opening, albeit a fairly basic one without much complexity or development after those first few minutes. 'You get what you pay for', comes the protest. Well, yes, but then I'm obliged to raise you Old Spice -around in the same cologne strength since 1937, and a relatively complex, fresh but warm oriental spicy amber scent with great development, lots of interest equal longevity and slightly better projection. And I'm afraid for me, it's no contest on that front: Jovan Musk is what it says on the bottle, not a lot more, isn't bad once [if] you can get past the opening, and is at least different to the sweet designer fragrances that dominate the current 2026 market. But when there genuinely is more quality on offer for the same or a very near price -it struggles to stand up, unless you prefer a much simpler, more linear scent -which is fair enough. Not for me -your mileage may vary.
