Muhle R41 Open Comb Safety Razor Head - No Blades Included

Like others who had done their research, I started off with a suitable beginner safety razor, an edwinn jagger de89, and have been really enjoying shaving with it. However as I gained some technique the de89 closed comb seemed to take a few passes to get a smooth result (been using derby blades mind you which are pretty mild).I decided on this and ordered astra blades to try in it. The razor is aggressive and the blade combo seems to suit it. The open combination makes a big difference too.The results are amazing in comparison. And I got a great result with 2 passes (quite close after one). Although it is very aggressive and has a reputation, I didn't cut myself at all and had no irritation whatsoeverThe closest shave I'd had before was using the de89 with the feather blades that came with it. This and the astra is much closer and I can highly recommendThe head oozes quality, and it was great to be able to but this and save money by using it on the edwinn jagger handle as the thread is the same size. Also dispatched quickly and came with a little pot of free shaving cream

Paired this with an Ikon OSS handle. Only one outing today but don’t let the scare stories about the beast put you off. It is more aggressive than say, my Merkur 23c but take your time and the experience is good. Zero cuts on its first time. For Futur users think about setting 3-3.5.

Great quality shaver , very aggressive shave, not for beginners. The r89 is best for those just starting out with DE wet shaving. I have both and I inter change the heads with the a grande handle.

Love this - don't know what all the fuss is about with being a bit of an 'animal' - its a razor, be careful and get a great shave! My Edwin Jagger DE89 has not had a look-in since this arrived.

Ok, I have been wet shaving with DE razor's for over 6 years now, and I would describe this as a razor "blade holder"I got the closest shave ever from a DE razor using this, so why only 4 stars you may ask, the reason is because I did not find it an enjoyable experience to use,in it's defence I did 4 or 5 passes on some hard to shave parts of the face and it didn't leave my face feeling raw, proving that sharper is better than less sharp.In the future I will continue to shave with my ES Claymore SE razor and use the R41 to finish off.It does the job very well but isn't as enjoyable to use as other razors out there.

Excellent quality as expected from Muhle, I do find it to be very aggressive though... For me, combining it with Feather blades was just too much; much better with Wilkinson's and Gilettes....
