Not borax
If you want this to do what borax does, it won't. This is a different chemical, (obviously as it is a substitute).I wanted it to darken laser engravings so if you are here for that, don't waste your time.

I wanted this to make Oobleck and guess what...it makes great Oobleck.
This was for a project with my grandchildren who requested the makings of Oobleck. If you are looking for the recipe and instructions, look it up on YouTube, that is where I got the recipe myself. Oobleck is a kind of slimy, but safe dough for kids to play with. My grandson wanted his to be green, of course, so I added watercolour paint from a tube and voila, perfect Oobleck! Safe, easy to clean up and he has had tons of fun with it. Plus borax has many other uses around the house and garden, look them up on YouTube too. :)
