Excellent overview
There’s a lot to be said about modern lawn turf grasses. It takes a lot of water, requires annual reseeding, looks its best with nitrogen fertilizer, and despises shade. If you enjoy maintaining a yard with all the charm and cost of a country-club golf course, a turf-grass lawn is for you. On the other hand, for most people there’s no rule that your yard - the space around your home - must be a grass lawn.As you plan a yard, you need decide how to keep it attractive, and decide which plants will actually grow and thrive. This book shows a sensible way ot make those choices. Some highlights: a clear method to clear your ground (pg. 62-63), description on planting methods (pg. 63), a clear chart of the over 80 varieties of ground cover described in the book (pgs. 42-47), and detailed information - with pictures and a key to each plant’s attributes. (pgs. 73-161).This book is about alternatives; choices that will make your yard a self-sustaining place. If you have struggled, as I have, to keep a turf grass lawn alive and attractive in shade, or dry, or poor soil, you already know that a turf-grass lawn fails. You don’t have to be environmentally conscious to know this; you only need to be conscious. This book gives you the essential information to switch to an enjoyable yard that is tough enough to grow on its own, and thrive with a sensible amount of maintenance.

Beautifully Written and Inspiring!
This beautifully written book is not only packed with comprehensible information, advice and helpful tips, but will set you off on a journey to explore the world of ground covers and all the benefits they have to offer! As an individual involved in the horticultural field for many years, I found this book to be an inspiration, as the author dives deeper into the broader definition of a groundcover as being “any plant that sufficiently covers the soil in a fairly dense manner”. Each detailed plant profile includes photographs with descriptions of the plant’s attributes, including ideal growing conditions, care, propagation, and special benefits, along with additional tips on drought tolerance, deer resistance, pollinator friendliness and yes…leaf swallowing! I would highly recommend Groundcover Revolution to anyone, novice or experienced, who is looking for a lower maintenance, functional, eco-friendly landscape to enjoy for years to come. As Kathy puts it, “If a crack in your driveway can support a weed, pull it and pop in a piece of a groundcover plant.” That says it all!

Just what I needed
I have listened to Kathy's interesting and informative podcast, GardenDC, for slightly more than one year. Since my garden is in dire need of ground covers, I first checked "Groundcover Revolution" out of the library to see if I would like it. I found that it was complete and well written. I love that Kathy has a communication style that appeals to both experienced gardeners and novices, plus everything in between. I highly recommend this book. It has beautiful photos and good, basic information regarding the use of groundcovers and essential information on the many types of plants she recommends.

Lots of Photos!
Lots of photos, which is the first thing I want. I need to see it to know if I may want to try to create it. There is good, practical suggestions such as whether I can walk on the groundcover.Ultimately, though, it is not a DIY book. I would call this more of an “idea” book to help a person think about the possibilities, to dream a little and weed out what may not work (forgive the gardening pun). For that purpose, I think the book is stellar. The author seems to know her stuff. One thing I wish was more prevalent- discussion about zones. As I read, I kept thinking that much of it looked like it would burn up in the area where I live, but maybe not. If it would work, would it take so much water that it would be environmentally wasteful to try to grow it? Just questions I had that I didn’t see much in the way of answers. Still- a good book.

Loved this book!
Love this book! I design gardens for people in addition to being a gardener myself. I'm often looking for plants that fill the groundcover niche, wanting to branch out rather than using the same selections ove and over. Kathy explains the reasons she prefers groundcovers to turfgrass, and also describes her own journey with gardening, and then gives readers practical instruction on how to install. I especially love the plant list, she goes into detail describing how each selection looks, acts and why she chose it. I've already started using this book as a reference. Also LOVE the pictures! Garden books should always have good photos so you can see the plant in situ, and this book really delivers. If you're a home gardener or a landscape professional, this book should be in your library. Five stars.

Muy interesante y bien explicado
Me gusta mucho el contenido y las especies que ha elegido para ir sustituyendo las praderas de césped y bajar el consumo de agua además de fomentar el aumento de polinizadores en tu jardín. Muy necesario
