I occasionally could have used one of these over the years as a contractor, but just got by using increasing sizes of drill bits. I selected this one over similar available step bits because it said it could cut through stainless steel, quite a difficult task. I used it yesterday to drill an extra faucet hole through a new stainless steel sink. It cut through fast as if it were cutting plastic. This is a good item, not foreign junk that only looks decent before you use it.

These step drills are not worth the money. The size "fraction" indicators are almost impossible to read, and appear to be painted on (see attached pics), therefore will be removed upon use very quickly. Two of the step drills donot have any sizes marked on them! They are suppose to be titanium coated, but also appears to be paint which rubs off on initial use. They are not very sharp either and have a round cutting angle on the edge. Do not buy, they are not worth your money or time.

I needed to enlarge a hole in a heavy steel bracket from 5/8" to 7/8". Using a slow drill speed, moderate pressure, and a steady WD40 spray it shaved off the steel with no problem. The mental shavings were long and intact--a sign of a sharp bit. The enlarged hole was perfectly round.The tool came in a very strong clear plastic case for storage.I can't comment on durability at this point. We'll see.

These fit into my 1/4 speed chuck and just make life convenient. I work in HVAC and my normal drill is usually out in my truck or in another bag, but I always have my impact driver. I can just pop one of these into my impact and quickly drill a hole with these uni-bits. Super inexpensive and they seem to last as long as the super expensive ones at the big box stores.

This is about as simple as it gets for a step drill. I used it it drill a 3/4” hole in a stainless steel turkey fryer. I purchased a DERNORD Stainless Steel Ball Valve - 1/2 Inch from amazon for the project. Once the 3/4” hole was drilled I used a rat tail file to open it up to approximately 13/16”. Applying light pressure after drilling a 1/4” pilot hole; step drill worked as advertised.

I bought this to drill an 1 1/4” hole in the side of my new smoker so I can install a hi-temp grommet to pass my temp probes through. The problem is the metal is over 1/8” thick, and this bit does not want to cut this big of hole thru that thick of steel. It may work fine for sheet metal, plexiglass, or wood. I don’t know. I didn’t buy it for that purpose.

The bits all broke after a few holes. They worked ok at the start but after just a few holes they break at the shaft and are then thrown away. The price is good if you only need to do a couple of holes but they are not built for long term use

First of all I was upset because it didn't come in a pouch baggy like shown on the images. Besides the bag issue the bit only lasted making 6 holes in a unitstrut, I was expecting at least more than 6 holes out of them. They'll do the job if your just going to use them once but after that there no good.

The bits worked well on aluminium 3/16 thick. However, what I did not like is the bits sizes are not labelled. I needed to use a calliper to know which step to drill to. Most other bits like this have the sizes stamped into the sidewall. Not the end of the world, but an unnecessary step required and an irritation to have to go looking for a calliper.

Right out of the packaging, this bit is dull. Tried it, kept going down in metal thickness to see at what metal thickness it would cut at. There is no bottom, it cuts nothing. There are some positive reviews on here but I have no idea what they are cutting. If your goal is to cut anything that is harder than a sheet of tissue paper, this is not the bit to buy. I am giving it one star only because the system does not allow zero stars.

Bought these to enlarge an existing hole in a "frame" member of a unibody vehicle to help with trailer hitch installation. Did not work, got dull almost immediately. Might have been asking too much of this product, but I think it's just poorly made/not hardened enough for drilling through anything other than thin sheet metal. Would not recommend for anything more than that.Dissapointing

Nice set, having all the different sizes makes there usefulness abundantly more valuable.

The steps on the drill bit are too big. I originally drilled the whole to 5/8 and then using this step bit to increase it to 3/4 inch. Each step is equal to 1/8 ,it should be 1/16 step. The bit just heated up the metal and took the titanium coating off the bit.
