Why do I like it? Its thorough
I rememberhearing about this book (a blurb in PLAYBOY in the 80s) and waiting, "Stone Alone" (not his solo album) came out first then this book, another about Blues artists, cartoon Stones book! No wonder he quit the Stones - he needed writing time. Actually too many books and finally releases on CD releases flooded the market this book was out of my price range it was a book I broused thru at the store or took out from the library. I own it so it is always at my disposal. Why do I like it? Its thorough, accurate full of memorabilia, cool photos etc. Best of all chronologically in order - have a favorite Stones era? Flip the page! Like certain musicians ? Look thru the index. Everyone except Mick Jagger wrote a book (Jagger was commissioned to write one in the 80s - instead he went solo). So buy this book I got a deal on the Amazon!

If you only buy one Stones Photo History--Buy This One
Bill Wyman's book about the Rolling Stones is a superior effort. The book is similar in layout to the Beatles Anthology or the 'According to the Stones' book which followed Wyman's and was written by the remaining members of the group. Here are the reasons I believe this is the best Stones picture history on the market. 1. Wyman has attempted to be fair to all members, past and present. His treatment of Brian Jones is sympathetic without pulling punches. He acknowledges Jones as the founder and driving force behind the band, and he laments his loss. 2. Wyman has a prodigious collection of Stones ephemera, which he began saving almost from day one, so that he could show his kids that he had been in a rock and roll band for the two or three years he expected the ride to last. There are literally hundreds of color photos of Stones stuff in this book. It's like going back in time or going to the world's best Rolling Stones museum. And it is put together with love and fits Wyman's narrative perfectly. Wyman also has a lot of items dealing with other bands from the period that traveled with them, influenced them, or just existed at the same time and are of interest to the history of rock and roll. 3. The writing is superb. There is very little "I" in this book. Wyman has carefully made it a history of the band, rarely mentioning his own personal experiences except where they are historically significant. This modesty is refreshing and makes the book more credible than 'According to the Rolling Stones'. 4. The book is well-thought-out and well put together. It is a delight to read from cover to cover and will be a book you will return to and re-read to find out more about the background and historical context of the songs. It is also very reasonably priced. I got mine from Amazon used for around five dollars and it was the best five bucks I've spent in a long time on a book. Buy it, treasure it. And thank you, Bill, for giving readers such a fun and informative look inside the life of one of the world's greatest rock and roll bands.

the best rolling stones' archive book.
there are a lot of books on the rolling stones but this issue is the best so far for me. written by non other than ex-rolling stone bill wyman himself who surprised me with his gift of writing and archiving. the book is well formatted and well laid out visually which is typical of any DK publishing. the book is comprehensive in terms of history and packed with a lot of photos that even the library of congress cannot even supply. i do not know how bill wyman has amassed a ton of archival photos which was amazing. even the anthology book published by the stones themselves is inferior to this edition by bill wyman. great job for a top notch artistic grade rolling stones book.

You can spend hours at a time.
Bill Wyman does an excellent job from their early years until he left the band.So much information. To me the early Stones 1963-1972 were their peak years. To hear people describe them as " Cave men" is funny because their hair was hardly on their ears.Fun book!!

unsurpassed book of visual stones history, right from the stored boxes in bill wyman's house....not to be missed!
if you are a hard core stones fan and you don't own this book, get it- quickly!! it's a treasure chest of stones memorabilia, from the very beginning, and from various countries. need a gift for a stones fan? can't miss with this. it's a tome, a very heavy book, beautifully done. there are used copies available, i bought one, saved quite a bit. it's the best book I've seen of stones memorabilia, and, of course, you know it's all real, coming right out of boxes in bill wyman's house. this guy saved it all, good thing, too. hard to tear oneself away from looking through it. easily the most fascinating visual stones history book- with guaranteed real history. highly recommended, from a stones fan of 54 years.

a wealth of info straight from the bassist Bill Wyman
Lots of pics and details. My only beef is that the background artwork on many pages can make the text hard to read. Terrible idea! But Stones fans must have this large book.

Interesting background on the Stones
I grew up with their music and recently watched a bunch of their music videos on YouTube. They seem to really enjoy being with each other and playing their music which explains their longevity as a band. Written by band member Bill Wyman, this is an illustrated inside look at the band for the 30 years he was a member. A lot of minutiae but fascinating at the same time. I read the whole book and enjoyed it

Thanks Bill!
I am the Stones Authority. This is a super cool book. And kind of hard to get a hold of now for a reasonable price. Some people complain about the format of the book because it is not a story book. Insert eye rolling here. Some of us actually appreciate an archivist type approach to some things since there are more than enough story books out about the Stones at this point. And Bill already gave us his story book version in "Stone Alone". But the memorabilia, the workaday notes, the photos and all make this such a fun collection to peruse at one's leisure that you should add it to your collection forthwith. Encyclopedic in its girth and volume there is no other that compares or can replace it.

Maravilloso libro de The Rolling Stones.
