Tales from the Hood (The Sisters Grimm #6) (Volume 6) (Sisters Grimm, The, 6)

Wonderful Tale
Despite their many problems (including the fact that their parents are under a sleeping spell) Sabrina and Daphne Grimm are growing up. Sabrina, despite herself, is becoming a girly girl and Daphne is starting to imitate Sabrina. In a way, this is a welcome diversion for the girls as their grandmother's best friend, Mr. Canis, is on trial for crimes he committed while he was the Big Bad Wolf. The Grimms have very good reasons to fear Mr. Canis will not have a fair trial, but do everything they can to help him, including trying to find out what really happened to Little Red Riding Hood and her grandmother. What they discover will surprise all of them - even Mr. Canis."Tales from the Hood" is the wickedly funny sixth book in Michael Buckley's The Sisters Grimm fantasy series. The series is set in Ferryport Landing where fairy tale and other fantasy characters such as the Queen of Hearts, Robin Hood, Little Red Riding Hood, Snow White, and others live. Buckley has a lot of fun turning the fairy tale world inside out for better or for worse (especially the Wizard of Oz series - he does a number on the Scarecrow in this book) and creates a world in which the Queen of Hearts is mayor and the Sheriff of Nottingham is, well the Sheriff. All of the regular characters in the series are maturing as the series goes along, especially Sabrina and Daphne and Mr. Canis - whose back-story is finally reviewed in the book and it is a good one. While the book is aimed at children, readers of all ages will enjoy it - adults will love the way Buckley skews the fairytale and fantasy characters. And without revealing too much, the courtroom scenes are some of the funniest scenes in that setting I've ever read - Buckley's choice of judge is inspired. The book ends on a cliffhanger that left me anxiously waiting for the next book in the series."Tales from the Hood" is a great entry in a wonderful fantasy series.

Different.
Like all of the Sisters Grimm books, this one was obviously amazing. It was different than the other books, though. It was more bloody and violent, but it still contained the trademark wit that all of Michael Buckley's books have. A thoroughly enjoyable read, and I can't wait to read the next book.

From a Big Bad Wolf fan...
This latest instalment of the Sister Grimm Series is yet one more of Michael Buckle's hits. Who would have thought that the long arm of justice would ever be able to reach the big bad wolf?. The Wolf is in jail; he will be held accountable for crimes done 600 years ago... will the Sisters Grimm be able to prove him innocent and get him out of jail? should they get him out of jail at all? New characters show up making the story even funnier and making you wonder at the seemingly endless imagination of their author...The Sister Grtimm Series has become one of the most beloved series in my house. They are full of extremely funny, clean humor for all ages. I highly recommend them. Kids and adults will enjoy them equally.

WHAT A READ! Book Of The Century!
This series is a dream. I love Sabrina, Daphne, and Puck. What's so good about it? Well... The Sisters Grimm combines fantasy, mystery, action, adventure and comedy all rolled up together. Put it alongside wits, quirkiness, top class writing, and hilarious reinterpretations of the fairytale characters we think we know, and it makes for a captivating, exciting and fun filled series for children 8-12. It's a little bit Harry Potter, a little bit Land of Stories, a little bit Skulduggery Pleasant (all of which are MIRACULOUS) and a whole lot of original. Did someone say "OI! GIMME A GOOD BOOK"? Coming right up. The Big Bad Wolf (aka Mr Canis) is on trial. And evidence points directly at him, and the crimes he has supposedly committed. It's up to Sabrina, Daphne, Puck and Granny Relda to find out the real story- and what they find will change how you view The Three Little Pigs, Little Red Riding Hood and all their characters forever more. Uncle Jake is still on the hunt for Goldilocks so she can wake their parents, Henry and Veronica, and the Scarlet Hand is getting more and more threatening. The Grimms have a lot on their hands, but with a bit of help (from Snow White, Robin Hood, The Three Little Pigs, Puck, Goldilocks, Briar Rose and more), it might be just enough to hold off a war and save their friend... OR will it? I HIGHLY recommend this book and this series!Yours Truly,The Bookworm On The Hillxxx

Another witty great adventure
In book 6 of the Sisters Grimm books the psychotic Little Red Riding Hood (Red) is back, hence the play on words of the title. In Buckley's great world where fairytale characters are real people known as Everafters there is a town called Ferryport Landing. The Grimm family, last descendants of the fairy tale collectors Wilhelm and Jacob Grimm, are under attack from the meglomania Mayor the Queen of Hearts and her malignant sidekick the Sheriff of Nottigham, but because they cannot get rid of family they go after Mr Canis, better known as the Big Bad Wolf, and put him on trial for the murder of Red's parents. It seems an open and shut case, everyone knows the Wolf ate Red's grandmother traumatising her into psychosis. But yet again, the truth is not as simple as it seems.I love the hardback editions of Buckley's Sisters Grimm series, they are compact little books with cloth covers, gold embossed titles and nice black and white drawings but best of all the edges of each page are rough as if they've been split apart with a ruler and have the feel of a much older book.
