When it detects a device is turned on, it will switch to that input. When it is powered off, it will switch off to the next active input. Some HDMI devices stay in a stand-by mode even when you have powered them off and always maintain a connection with the switch. The older ones do. The manufacturer provided bad information. None of what they said is true. Maybe it was in the initial releases versions.
