Turned the High octave and original signal all the way up, and it slightly cuts the volume but ads some drive and sounds amazing for solos with a distortion right before it Review: No good quality - Pitch Quality is rubbish. Tracking does no Professional job.

EX Octave Pedal OCT-1 Poor Sound Quality, Construction Fine
This review is for the EX Octave Pedal OCT-1. I was excited to see this product for sale and especially at such a low price. I like both octave up and octave down effects and thought this would be a great way to add both of these to my pedal board. I've had good experiences with most of the cheap-o Chinese mini pedals and placed the order. Unfortunately, the sound quality of this effect was not what I had hoped for. First the octave up. The octave up is in the style of the Hendrix Purple Haze/Octavia sound. For reference, I have owned an Original Roger Mayer Octavia, Fulltone Octafuzz, Danelectro French Toast, and a homebrew Tychobrahe Octavia clone. Each of these are different but they all have a strong octave up effect and a gain knob that ranges from squeaky clean-ish to raging searing fuzz. The OCT-1 octave up is squeaky clean-ish sound only (which is what I use - I use a distortion after) but has a weak, fizzy, and unpleasant sound. It also works on a smaller range of the fingerboard than the others. Yuck. Regarding the octave down, I've had a Boss OC-2 for comparison (which I really liked). For the 1 octave down, the tracking of the OCT-1 was poor, jumping from octave to harmonics much more so than the Boss, and the 2 octave down was essentially unusable. The sound quality of the octave downs were poor as well, not distorted or fuzzy, but muddy, unclear, imprecise. Not the strong, robot from hell tones that the Boss can generate. Yuck on the octave down as well. Construction wise, the pedal is fine, similar to every other Chinese mini pedal. I kept the pedal for a day, wrapped it up and sent it back to Amazon. Disappointing.

This is even better than the Boss equivalent
This is even better than the Boss equivalent, which I used to own. The octave followed by the mighty fuzz sounds awesome!

Well made though not perfect, if you need some noise to wrestle with could be what you’re listening for...
Not the best octave pedal, but some of the sounds it produces are unique and other worldly. If you want a pedal that will track quickly and sound like your instrument but an octave or two lower this is not it, but if you want a honking freaky noise machine this is definitely worth a try, and at $21 a good deal at that.

and he loved it!
Provides some interesting sounds, but does not track particularly well with my guitars. However, my son tried it with our bass, and he loved it!

Three Stars
Great tone but clicks and pops. Very distracting.
