Aerofax: Tupolev Tu-154: The USSR's Medium-Range Jet Airliner

Good book about a Soviet aircraft
This is a good book about the TU-154 aircraft, something that may be obscure to most Westerners. It explains how it was developed and the various variants. There are plenty of pictures of the different types of TU-154's. The author clearly knows his subject matter. The book is rather dry in tone though. It also includes a list of all TU-154's made and the airlines, past or present, that use them.

Complete and interesting to read!
A good overview of the development, modification and service of the Tu-154. There is also a great photographic overview of operators of the aircraft.

Pretty much the only English language title for the Tu154
I bought a 2nd hand copy of the book for just a few pounds. For the money it was an amazing buy. The book is rather cold in its description of the aircraft and much space is devoted to statistical lists of variants of the aircraft. It would have been nicer to have had some 1st hand accounts of the development and design but its understood that finding out such details from projects in the former USSR is very difficult. For this reason I think the book is great especially as I cant find anything else in English on the Tu154 in print.

The photos are very good, as is the layout of the text
A thoroughly interesting read, from an author well versed in his material. Back in the 80s, I worked a lot with the Tu154, especially those operated by Aeroflot, Balkan and Tarom. The Tu154, is one of the most successful Soviet era jetliners ever built, and is still in service with many airlines in different parts of the world. There are one or two errors in the volume, but no where near enough to negate the otherwise superbly written content of the book. The photos are very good, as is the layout of the text. In short, a book worth every penny/cent, and if like me, you're into Soviet airliners, then this volume has to be on your bookshelf.

Umfassende Monografie
