Solar charge controller for Emergency 12.8 volt lifepo4 battery for EV
To help with the degradation of the 12volt lead acid battery in my Tesla model S, I have outfitted it with a 100 volt flexible solar panel, mounted on the back cargo cover, and installed a 12.8 volt 45 Amp hour lifepo4 battery in the rear storage area. This solar charge controller keeps the lifepo4 battery topped off as I drive and park my model S in the sunny Southern California climate.

I needed a charge controller for some older tech solar panels.
The media could not be loaded. I got this charge controller because the specs looked like it was more suitable for the older technology modules. By that I mean, it has a 21 V open circuit voltage 17 V max power voltage. The newer modules seem to have an open circuit voltage of 25 and operating voltage of 19. The small difference in voltage is a big deal, considering the operating parameters of a charge controller. I just recently wired it in to make sure it worked OK and in the process of finishing up a prototype box. The one thing about this charge controller I found curious is that it does not have a flap in the front that you can open and expose the screw terminals For connection of wires. So I had to pre-wire it screw the back plate on and then bolt it down through the cover of my box. That’s the only way I could see how to do it. So if you need to get a connections once it’s assembled it’s going to be difficult. Other than that it seems like a really good charge controller. I really like the LCD Display and it is easy to use. The red light that is showing is normal status. I can report back overtime if I have any issues with this, but as of now it’s new and working well. I’m using it to charge a gel style battery. Also it comes with a battery temperature probe, which is an important charging parameter. The probe end is a large ring terminal, which needs to be up against the battery case. Not bolted to something. Some small charge controllers do not have this feature.

moisture proof and works great !
works great right out of the box. so much better than the short lived common cheaper models. I am totally satisfied.

Small in size
Havent used it yet but heres a pic of it.Smaller than what it looks like online.

Very good for the price
This little controller is even better than described. It let's me know the voltage of my batteries, how many amps, my battery is putting out and how many amp hours I gain each day. It also tells me if there is enough energy going into it from the connected panels. There are several easy to understand settings allowing you to choose what battery type you are using. It also has a battery temperature gage option but the gage doesn't come with it. My older cheaper controller did nothing but tell me if there was light on my panels and how many volts and amps my battery had.

Outstanding product!
My inflatable boat which has a trolling motor I run on a LiFePo4 battery, and I got this solar charger so I could use the sun to extend the range of the boat. The quality of this device is amazing! I was going to add a separate lithium battery level indicator, but now I don't need to because this charge controller has battery level detection built right in. There's not much else to say other than it's very robust and does its one job very well. I would even use it without a solar panel just for the battery level detection.
