Myrciaria dubia, commonly referred to as camu camu or cacari, is a small riverside tree that grows in the dense Amazonian rainforest of Peru and Brazil. It bears a red cherry-like fruit, which is popularly used to flavor ice cream, juices, and smoothies in Peru. Camu Camu holds the highest concentration of vitamin C of any fruit, and contains ellagic acid—a natural substance shown to have anti-cancer properties in some research. Enjoy this superfood in a fruit juice concoction, or as a dressing for desserts and in yogurt.
