Not bad but could use some improvements
Overall, the tester does work pretty well. I'm using it to test ethernet cable runs after I crimp the ends on. I'm also using it to see how long the cables I make are so I know how much cable I have left on the spool.I like that the unit is fairly compact yet has a lot of useful features. I also like that it has a built-in rechargeable battery.I don't like that the wire tracker unit does not have a rechargeable battery. It uses a separate 9v battery. I don't like that you pretty much have to take the battery out of the unit when storing it in the case because any pressure on the top of the case presses the button and turns the tracker on.I like the idea that it came with carrying case, but the case is too small (see photo). It doesn't even have enough room to carry all of the cables and probes that came with the unit. I purchased the version with ID mapping, which also came with seven remote ID boxes. There's no way those could fit in the case either. The user manual is not great. It was obviously translated or not written by someone with English as a first language so some parts are difficult to understand. For example, "The product apply the advance digital technology to achieve precious digital noise free cable tracing."There were no instructions for using the cable ID units.I would have liked the cable length measurement feature to have an option to measure in feet instead of only meters. There is an "M" indicator on the screen for "meters" so I thought maybe there was a way to switch it to other units but I was unable to find a way and the manual doesn't mention it.Overall, I'm glad to have this affordable unit in my toolbox. I had to spend a good deal of time playing around with it to really figure out how all of the functions worked. I'll be looking for some sort of decent case to put in all in.

Laundry list of design flaws, that would irk any seasoned Telecom professional...
In short, DO NOT BUY.I should have known there was going to be an issue, when the carrying case zipper blew out the first time I tried to close it (rendering it useless). So, let's start with the obvious - the cable/tail it comes with is an unprofessional cable, what appears to have been assembled by children - and is only about 6 inches long. So, you'll be spending another $20-30 to get a proper braided telco cable with Alligator Clips and a Bed-of-Nails.However, the tone transmitting functions on here, doesn't use the INDUSTRY STANDARD of pins 4 & 5 (blue pair), they use pins 3 & 4 (which is some weird mix of the blue pair and orange/green pair, depending on the wire standard you use). Although that works fine for the garbage tail cable it ships with, if you do get an actual professional cable to replace that, only one of those two clips will actually be transmitting tone.Continuity requires using the wand cables (like on a multi-meter), instead of again using pins 4 & 5 on the cable you'd normally want to use - the replacement you purchased with Ally Clips and BoN).They should program the thing to do all its continuity and tone generation from pins 4 & 5, so you don't have to change cables for such a simple function. And the toning/tracing wand's volume knob only works when doing analog tone location - using the digital tone location, it's always at its highest volume (yay). To top all those limitations, switching to the multi-meter cables, I needed to test voltage on a 120v outlet (cables plugged into the "up to 1000v" multi-meter holes), and it blew the unit. One loud pop, a slight burn to the palm of my hand, the faint smell of ozone, and it was dead. So, this needs some major redesign from someone who actually understands telecom.
