Very even screen size, roasts up evenly
Full mellow flavor with a medium roast (first crack). Notes of cocoa, mild earthiness and sweetness, low acid. Very consistent. I wouldn't take it dark, myself, but I think you could and that would be good too.

Overall good value
What's nice about these are the beans are very uniform in size. Not a lot of small beans so the roasting is more even. The beans roast well. The flavor is okay but part of that is on me as I tend to over roast and get them too dark. Still the beans roast well and grind well also. I will continue to buy this brand as I think the quality is good.

Wonderfully delicious and healing brew! Sumatra for the win!
At first glance these green Sumatra beans threw me off a bit - they weren't uniformly perfect like many of the South-American or even Ethiopian beans I've roasted. I noticed the fair amount of negative reviews about the appearance and quality. I'm open minded so I decided to take a...crack...at this bean.Right out of the bag I notice the raw coffee smell was different, much earthier than the 'cleaner' green beans I've encountered. There were a few beans I discarded due to some breakage and discoloration, but overall the quality was not surprising to me. Why?Everything you need to know is in the origin of Sumatran coffee-- it's known for it's more earthy, sweet, spicy profile which is the result of how the coffee is hand processed at the farm-level, allowed to ferment, then dried a few different times before export. Sumatran coffee simply stays wetter for longer and get's beat up more than other coffees, this is actually critical to the final product. The whole process is special to this bean and culminates in a very special finished coffee.I noticed that even during the roast, the typical smells were different. During the drying stage of the roast the coffee smelled nutty and sweet, not like straw which I'm accustomed to with other origins. I chose to roast my first batch a little slower. I noticed that the first crack wasn't as pronounced as other coffees, I figure this is due to to the fact that many beans were slightly split even while green. There was definitely a decent amount of pops coming from my roaster, but again, a dialed down version. The beans really didn't start talking in earnest until the second crack began. I took the roast comfortably into the second crack to ensure a rich dark roast while avoid scorching the batch. After allowing the beans to rest for a day (I know it's better to wait 48 hours, but I couldn't help myself), I was floored at how fantastic the finished cup of coffee was: silky smooth, sweet, nutty, I even noticed the spicy notes. I think I've become a nuisance to my wife because I cannot quit raving about this bean, definitely a new favorite.I started roasting my own coffee because I had the good fortune of buying some freshly roasted beans a few years back and I noticed it made me feel unusually good. There is something in fresh roasted coffee that brings a sense of wellness to my body. I know that sounds corny, and it is not just an effect of caffeine. I notice this more with the darker roasts, but again, only with very fresh coffee. There is some element within the darker roasts that is medicinal in my totally amateur and anecdotal experience. For me, I notice that aches and pains disappear, my sinuses clear up, headaches ease, the effect is remarkable.I noticed this effect very much in this bean, pat of me wonders if the fermentation plays some role. I'm no scientist, so I'll get off my high horse, but I cannot overstate how much I'm enjoying this Sumatran brew.

This organic Sumatra and this company are both legit.
Great coffees. I got the organic Peruvian and sumatran and both very good. I took sumatran to second crack. Swelled up all big and shiny with awesome colors and smell. Dont be afraid to order from this company. Coffee came overnight. Awesome.
