Heinz Sandwich Spread was a staple sandwich filling during my childhood in the UK especially during WWII . It is basically a full flavoured mayonnaise mixed with small pieces of carrot, onion, cabbage , gherkins and more. At one time I remember that Heinz produced it in Australia but it wasn't the same and Coles and Woolies stopped stocking it a few years ago. So I was stunned to see the original spread now sold by Amazon AU - imported from the UK - and on free Prime delivery. If anything the spread is better than I remember, The only problem for some is that there is a minimum purchase of 3 bottles, but it is easy for me as I can binge every day now with my midday sandwich. Highly recommended for someone looking for a different sandwich from tomatoes, ham, avocado etc. Or for someone like me who has been looking for this old favourite for a while.

As a child of the ‘60s this is a taste of my formative years. As well as an evocation of happy summer picnics and lovingly made school sandwiches, it is, in its own right, DELICIOUS! Also if you make hamburgers at home, whether using traditional beef or my favourite Beyond Burger plant-based burgers, and for some reason wish to replicate the taste of what Rev. Spooner would call a Mig Bac, a spoonful of Sandwich Spread in the mayo does the job. I like it best cool from the fridge on fresh crusty bread and butter.
