Great introduction to 3D printing
I came across this book because I watched the authors videos on YouTube. He is really knowledgeable and is great at communicating complex subjects. This book is fantastic if you know very little about 3D printing. It will cover all the basics of what a 3D printer is, how it works, and what to expect as a beginner. It doesn't give you super detailed information on all subjects, but I think that is the point of the book. It's not to overload you with information, it's just to give you an introduction to the world of 3D printing and allows you to start this journey on a better foundation.I would highly recommend this book if you're thinking about getting into 3D printing, and also checking out the authors videos online. That should give you a good idea of 3D printing is right for you.I hope to see you join the 3D printing community!

Nice intro to 3d printing for newcomers
It answers many questions about 3d printing technology and the software needed to drive the printers. It is a quick read which is good for someone who wants to gain a basic understanding of 3d technology to determine if they want to buy a printer and give it a try.

As advertised on the tin
This is a wonderful guide for anyone considering getting their feet wet with 3D printing. The early chapters deal with safety and the reality of what 3D printing is and isn't. If anything, it can serve as an inexpensive deterrent if you're not willing to make the investment in time and effort. The writing makes the subject accessible and easy to understand for anyone out there. And for fans of Douglas Adams, the book is littered throughout with quotes from the HHGG series.

Nice, but could have been really good.
I bought this book for a friend because I did not want him to have to stumble around various websites and through trial and error learn what the world of 3d printing was all about and how to do it (as I had to do). The softcover edition of this book nicely meets that expectation. It is inexpensive, and ends the mysteries that took me many hours to figure out when I took the plunge. I wish the author had charged more, however, because what is really frustrating about the book are its illustrations and particularly its pictures for the greater part, are useless. The illustrations. for example, are small -in many cases, too small to read--and the pictures have the detail of a black and white laser print. In other words, they do not appear to be grayscale and much, if not most of the important detail has been washed away. A typical example of this is the pic that appears on an unnumbered page of an object with a skirt and another with a brim. The skirt doesn't show.Sadly, the "Look Insider" teaser is misleading in that it shows high quality, high resolution COLOR pics. I can only assume that is the case for the Kindle edition. Would I buy it again for a buddy? I guess, maybe, kind of. My suggestion would be to get the Kindle edition and skip the softcover until this lives up to the expectation of "look inside."

Very helpful!
I really had no idea about what 3D printing involved. I now have a better understanding of what it is. I appreciate that Mr. Larson explained technical things in nontechnical language. I also appreciate his providing additional addresses to gain more information.

The book is an excellent introduction to 3D printing
The book is an excellent introduction to 3D printing. It contains a significant amount of material that is readily available online if you know where to look, however, it is nice to have the information in one place. I gave it four stars because the pages are not numbered, which makes it hard to cite.

Title says it all
This book (booklet?) Was an excellent introduction to 3D printing. I have enjoyed Joe's 3D Printing Professor videos on YouTube, found out about the book there, and was not disappointed with my purchase. The links provided directed me to Joe's useful and informative videos and other useful websites. No to get myself a 3D printer.

Good
I'm new to 3D printing and I bought this book to help me decide wether 3D printing was for me. I haven't got a 3D printer yet but I don't think it will be long before I do get one. I did find the book informative and interesting. I'm 75 and I want something to while away the hours instead of watching TV, and to give my Brain a work out, So I think I will be giving it a try. I'm not computer savvy but I will have a go.

"Beginner's Guide..." is modest description - "Beginner's Reference..." would be better
This review is written from the perspective of a person with general technical knowledge. This publication is offers the right amount of explanation and relevant terminology, avoiding bogging the reader down in subject-specific waffle that's unnecessary for the intended audience. There are plenty of hyperlinks in the ebook version which will take you to Joe's videos relevant to the topic being discussed. In fact Joe has an excellent video titled "10 Cold, Hard Truths About Owning A 3D Printer" which I happened to have watched while doing my research into 3D Printing, and I'd highly recommend that anyone considering owning a 3D printer watch that first, then if they decide it's still the way to go, grab this book.So why do I believe it should be called a reference? Because once you actually start working with your printer, it's a good source to come back to because then the linked videos will become more relevant as you become more familiar with your printer's operation. For the relatively modest cost of the publication, it's worth considering as buying Joe a cup of coffee for taking the time to prepare a carefully measured and delivered amount of information..

Copy or not!! But good info
This book is ok for the price with good clear text and very informative, BUT pictures and diagrams are abysmal. Magnifying glass needed on some, out of focus, blurred on others. To be honest apart from the actual text I'd assume this was a very poor copy.
