Solid solution for getting HDTV signals over a long run
Purchased this product to replace a long HDMI cable that yielded an unreliable signal even when set to 480p. This product fixed that right away, producing a solid 1080p signal with no further effort than unplugging the old cable and putting these devices in its place. I haven't had a chance to run a dedicated Cat 6 cable yet, but even with the under-spec Cat 5e cable I'm temporarily using (repurposed from the network) it's working flawlessly. The IR repeater function is also handy as it allows me to control the video source from the display rather than just setting it up and leaving it.Unlike HDMI it is possible to terminate your own RJ45 cables, so devices like this make pulling cables through walls simpler and allows you to have exactly the correct length of wire. Wall jacks are also more elegant as the cable can be wired directly into the faceplate rather than having to use a cumbersome pass-through jack. The status LED on the receiver unit makes it easy to see when everything is good and potentially can aide in diagnosing problems, as televisions/monitors rarely give much information on the source of a signal problem. The sender and receiver units are well built with metal chassis and four mounting holes to place them near where they are needed. The two AC power bricks are small with long cables attached, so getting power to them is relatively straightforward and the IR cables have two-sided tape mounted for proper placement. Came in a well re-enforced box with plastic guards to keep everything in place so it gets to you without damage.

The product works well, my first review was negative. MyProblem proved to be an intermittent failure of HDMI chip in the new projector. Because intermitants are so hard to diagnose I blamed the wrong device. I am using 150 ft. Of cat6 cable.

Works as a simple remote extender (look ma -- no HDMI!)
** UPDATED 03/17/23Wow - surprised the ratings have dipped a bit (rise of the 5 star). My unit is working as originally setup. I moved to a different home - tried a longer distance and still had some concerns but for a shorter length it works as necessary. In the past I was using the setup with a full HDMI cable length and this unit with CAT6 to do the remove piece only. I have since removd the HDMI cable and use the CAT6 model to transmit the HDMI as well. The only concern at times is that when you are watching scenes with black empty screens - say when you cut from the end - blank screen - credits - there is a tendency in this mode that the picture disconnects (reverts back to the TV trying to acquire HDMI) - brief but at times it can flash this scenario.I need two satellite TVs - and this only helping with one. I am going to review the MYPIN product which is a dual. B071SHDX7Z Also will be doing some fishing to the second room - today I have to wind around walls to get there - so hopefully reducing the length may help.Back to this product - the 2nd room is the bedroom and there is a FAIR amount of distance from the bed to the TV - yet when I used this product originally - it was having mixed results - sometimes the remote worked fine and the PVR guide came up - and other times it did not. I think the 40m or whatever length is over stated. I don't think they go that length.*** Recently I had a problem with an HDMI splitter - it died. By absolute luck this unit had the same AMP/VOLTAGE and CONNECTOR - I was quickly able to rule the PSU for the other was dead and bought a new one. So a bonus helper with this unit.** UPDATED 11/07/19- 1 year old and working great between kitchen and living room; worth the money alone not having to waste time with the battery issues- tried again to get the upstairs TV working to no avail - so confirming that length is a problem (not an issue for Roku box); next plan is to buy a shorter cable and use a coupler to make it work without excessive length - will advise; based on the length range issues - I will keep it as a 4 étoiles** ORIGINAL REVIEW NOV 2018Review for simple HDMI extender version. We have 1080p TVs and a PVR (Cisco I think - Nextbox 3.0 Rogers)PVR goes into an HDMI splitter then back to the PVR, to the bedroom and to the kitchen. I needed a remote extender to control the PVR (the one I am using now is EOL and being battery based has been a royal PITA). Wife uses this "closed" system and no reason to pay Ted Jr. any more money at this time for boxes.I tried running from the upstairs bedroom to the living room but it didn't work - jury still out (HDMI to bedroom is 50' but I know the CAT6's are longer overall). I then moved the setup to be shorter from the kitchen to the living room. I have a central hub of CAT 6 cables in the basement and nothing long enough to go from kitchen to living room (since it cannot be off a router) - and I was able to use a RJ45 coupler without issues.I was worried that if I do not connect the HDMI, the remote control piece will not work - but that is not true. However, there is a blinking light because I haven't connected the HDMI cables (again I have a separate HDMI setup; and I did try this unit and found the picture to be very good). I am 100% pleased with the operation so far (one less headache - one to go).The IR receiver is good - picks up a somewhat wide range; the IR sender is so/so. I couldn't get it to work with the PVR at first then clocked more time with my youngest. There is a very narrow range in which the PVR will accept the signal - not sure why other than that is how the sender is. The sender being off a few inches is enough to cause it to fail - but I just have to move it back [a more permanent MacGyver system will come].The next step will be to re-test the longer bedroom. If I have further issues I will try to fish a cable for a more direct route to see if that fixes it. I am hoping to be able to have two sender IRs beside each other (never a case for simultaneous). Possibly a third setup will follow but shorter (basement to living room).* I will update the review with a ballpark length from living room to kitchen* I will update the review with my results from bedroom to living room* I will update the review if I go ahead with a second unit* Comments/questions - make them and I will update the review [took a while to get to this point and I had to use the longer Christmas Amazon return policy to take a chance on this - using it as a remote extender alone is not stated as a possible "only" option]4 stars - I have had a number of remote control systems - spanning perhaps 15 years; I somewhat surprised on the sender's issues with the narrow range - that is the reason for the 4 étoile. (Note it is a bit more money versus other systems to do what I need - except most are some form of wireless crap and this WORKS and believe this wired solution ultimately is worth the money).
