Q: Does this have the same format as classic monopoly with the ability to buy colored sets and build houses, etc. on them?

You purchase properties as normal, but there are no houses or anything else to build on them. If you own all of the properties in a colored set, the rent costs more as in classic Monopoly. Every colored set consists of two properties.

Q: is it boring and take long like regular monopoly???

No, actually it is exciting and a lot of fun. The kids love the different take on Monopoly. I think the length of time it takes to play depends on how you play, and how many people are playing. But from the youngest to the oldest everyone in our family loves it. The Nintendo tokens just make it more fun. I think anyone who likes Monopoly or Nintendo will enjoy this game.

Q: Which would you recommend? the mario monopoly gamer edition, or the celebration edition?

I have not played the celebration edition. We like Gamer because it is reminiscent of Mario Bros with dropping coins and collecting them and Boss fights.

Q: Any way to buy extra coins for the game?

I just use pennies for the normal coins. They are the same size.
