Q: Will these mount on the plastic rack that Polaris has?

If the plastic rack has bars, yes. But it's mainly for racks with metal tubes

Q: Can these be shortened enough for a 5yo in a rear lounger?

Should be able to do that. Just connect them to a bar farther on the 4 wheeler. My wife loves them and you can fold them up and tuck them away when not in use.

Q: Will these foot rests fit a 2017 can-am outlander? another seller says non-compatible.

Yes I'm pretty sure these will fit your outlander they hook easily to the back rack if yours has one and our fully adjustable with plenty of adjustment

Q: Are they durable for long rides?

Yes they are, my girlfriend and I put 300 miles on them over a 2 day ride. She was very comfortable. Adjust them an inch or two higher than you think you normally would and as things stretch and relax a little they will appreciate them even more!
