Java in One Day is one of the best IT books I have ever read
Extremely well written and understandable. I will be purchasing more of this author's books. Great for all levels. Highly recommend it.

An Invaluable Tool
I do agree with what some people have said, that this book may not be for absolute beginners. But if you're familiar with programming and know other languages, this will get you up to speed with Java quickly. The way I used it is a good example. I bought this because I took a Java II college course, and it had been over year since I'd taken Java I. This book provided a good refresher to get me back up to speed for my Java II course, and in that respect it was perfect. The beauty of this "In One Day" series is that it's bare bones information with all the proverbial fat trimmed off. So it's great for what I used it for. Probably not so great if you've never programmed before. I've bought several of the books in this series to refresh and reinforce my studies of different program language, for which the textbooks are often confusing and unnecessarily self-important.

Good for people who already know a language
Not 5 stars because download process required youtube, also in the project some error happened and didnt happen in vscode weird. Overall great quality book coupled with a couple youtube videos on the advanced topic you will learn java well. The project helped solidiy many examples. More like learn java in one week. Also many advanced words were thrown in beginning chapters which make it seem like this book would be a bit confusing for a complete beginner. This book was perfect for me a beginner-intermediate python programmer.

So easy to read and extremely well-written
I am very picky about the quality of study resources that I use. That being said, I have found that this book is extremely well-written and easy to understand. While others may claim to provide the clearest and simplest explanations, this book actually does that! For someone who has never learned Java before, I was bez"H still able to easily understand the concepts. Kudos to Jamie Chan for this great book.

Outdated & defective instructions in second chapter
Newer versions of NetBeans exist than the one in the book, and there are differences, not insignificant. It is very difficult to follow his instructions to get everything to work correctly without going outside of his book. His initial example would be difficult for a beginner to get to run correctly. That being said, the book does have value. However, the early part could waste the reader a good deal of time. Some of the syntax on his coding examples seems to be dated. I found some changes necessary to be able to get good builds. I think most of the information in the book is basically good. However, it is time for a revision. Glad I only paid for the Kindle copy. My other concern is that the images in the Kindle edition cannot be enlarged using zoom methods. Some parts are too grainy to be made out even with a magnifier.

This book is a keeper
As a .Net developer, I needed to learn Java and learn it fast. This book is great! It covers intro to advanced topics in a clear concise format. I cross referenced the more advanced topics with info from Oracle and other sources and was pleased to know the info in this book is technically sound. Does it cover everything u need to know about java? Of course not, and that's not the stated purpose of the book. But if ur looking to get up to speed on Java very quickly this book will do it. It's like u took a course in java and this book is ur notes, i.e. u can't write down everything- just the essentials.

Maybe a refresher for past Jave experts, but not a newbie
I have been programming in several languages for over 30 years. I tried this book. It is an excellent book and there might be people eho could read it, do the exercises and get a job. Maybe even pass a certification exam in Jave Programming. However, I don't know any of ghose people and expect that they are very few and far between. I had to study 2 semesters of Java programming at a university later and I would still not claim that I had mastered it. It is the hardest language in which I havd ever programmed. Don't be too hard on yourself if you feel unable to finsh yhis book with deep understanding after 24 hours of a week. I can see where it might serve as a good refresher for someone eho has been a Java expert in the past. However, it will almost always kick any newbie's @$$.

Great Book to revise Java Concepts....
This book is good for people who have knowlege of some other programming language like C++, C#. This book provides the bird-eye view of entire Java language. The book is great for people who have some experienec of Java and want to review the Java. This book has 12 Chapters and the 12th Chapter is dedicated to Java Console Project which includes File Handling. Just buy the Book, you won't regret it.

0/10
Maybe this book was worth something at the time it was released, but now it's a complete garbage. Nothing goes with NetBeans like it's described in the book, on page 16 (out of 200) you get lost already, because nothing works alike. Complete waste of money, if I knew it I wouldn't ever buy it.And one more thing. In the book stands that you can download a template from author's website. I went on the website, stands you can download it only after subscribing. Are you serious, really?

The best beginner book by far
Hi during lockdown in late 2020/2021 I decided whilst I had some time I would learn to code. After talking to lots of different people all giving different advice I ended up with a lot of programming books in many languages. I had a play with a number of languages and read from many text books and I have to say for an absolute beginner I found this book the best by far. It takes a step by step approach covering some advance topics and it does so at a pace that is both challenging and still understandable. Rarely have I tried to learn a new subject and had such a great book to learn from. Don't get me wrong there were and still are moments where I have been left scratching my head trying to figure things out but when it finally clicks its such a great feeling. I can't recommend this book enough for someone trying to learn from scratch it's brilliant. I have ordered several other books that came with high star ratings (html and JavaScript) and upon flicking through them they didn't cover anything you couldn't learn in a day or two from YouTube, this book however has kept me challenged and learning and it will be one book I will hang on to for a long time. If you're looking to learn java your first language or even your 5th I would recommend you pick up this book.
