This text and author provide additional perspective regarding delivering of instruction and approaches. If this has been a concern at all in your department, then the value of this text has already been proven. It is a rare thing for a textbook in art to be available, let alone one that could so readily reduce the countless hours spent selecting comparable materials to present; while additionally clarifying the understanding of the instructor's role as facilitator, student's role in inquiry learning, and the general "IB-ness" of the course. The rising senior IB students previewed this book and unanimously encouraged me to proceed with departmental adoption of the text. I suggested we could get a classroom set, but the students insisted that they would each prefer to have an individual copy to mark and flag as their own, especially since the price was affordable and possesses so much beneficial information. As one student stated “the examples are excellent and demonstrate how evidence for each criteria can be very diverse and personalized while still meeting the objectives. I like this a lot”. And several students mentioned how it would be a great resource for going into their college art programs as well. For our new IB students coming in, as well as parents, I can’t think of a better resource to help verbally and visually communicate the goals and assessments of this course. It should be noted that this text was also compared with the “IB Visual Art Course Book” and found to be superior in organization, assignments, resource information, and examples. Simply put, we saw Paterson's as an excellent "What is IB Visual Art ?" guide (and will have a classroom set of this text available), but McReynold's as a "How to IB Visual Art" guide. This text is a well edited progression of information for both SL and HL students, with every concern for student preparedness and success addressed. The decision to pursue the adoption of this text has not been made lightly, but with every concern for student preparedness and success.

Art School Mentoring
This book is so fun. I don't have a kid going through the IB program; I just bought it for myself, and am using it for inspiration while I put myself through "Internet art school." So I can't really speak to its applicability to that degree, but I can tell you that it gets the creative juices flowing, and is helping me to keep a "beginner's mind" while learning from an array of online courses. It's a bit of a challenge to put together an "art school" curriculum for yourself if you're not trained in teaching formal art study, so I went looking for a little help, and this book is kind of like a paper mentor. Basically, if you are looking for a book that will help you to round out your art education, this is an excellent choice. Not everyone is lucky enough to get to go to art school when they're young, and some of us still have that desire in later life, so I say, why not? At some point, you have to take responsibility for your own learning path.If you are young and thinking about this book, I say get it. Take this opportunity to heart, get everything you can out of it, and know what it's worth to you.

I have found this text to be of great benefit to my HL Visual Art students
After teaching HL level for five years, I have found this text to be of great benefit to my HL Visual Art students, in a language that they can digest, and examples provided which make clear the development and interrelationship of the major three components of external submissions. I bought this personally as it made my IB life much more focused. I looked at Heather's In thinking site and decided this was well worth the investment. With the change in the OCC IB site which removed much of the teacher shares of curriculum and strategies this text was a lifesaver for many whom I shared and recommended the title.
