Check out the Performance Books
Piano teacher here. For a long time, I just used the Lesson Books in the Faber series, and didn’t bother with the Theory, Technique & Artistry, or Performance Books. But I finally decided to check out a few. My conclusion: I can cover the theory on my own (and with the help of the theory included in the Lesson Books); the Technique & Artistry books just don’t seem that interesting (I suspect they would bore most of my students); but the Performance Books have some fun pieces, and present technical challenges in a way that’s more fun than the Technique & Artistry Books. So I’ve started using the Performance Books. And it seems like doing the two books at each level (Lesson and Performance) means that students are a bit better prepared to step up to the next level. Give ‘em a try!

My daughter switched to Faber's Level 1 books after starting out in Alfred's. She has progressed quickly in the Faber books and they seem to be more of a "click" to her. She's now entering 3A and is enjoying the new books immensely. We really appreciate the variety available at each level, including Popular Repertoire and Christmas songs. The Faber Theory is also more interesting than Notespeller, which is what she used instead for a couple years.
