Q: Would the tip strongly resist pulling out of the handle? I use probes like this to verify the location of studs behind drywall.

I have not heard of this being loosened enough to come apart. That being said, with the industrial purposes that you are using it for, might I suggest, as a proactive approach, to drop a tig-weld or solder a spot where it connects to the handle. I think its ingenious to use it to find studs and can see, after many uses, that it could possibly come apart. Hope it helps

Q: How long is the skinny part? How thick compared to a toothpick or straight pin? Sturdy enough to clean out light gunk from a small hole?

I’d say about an inch, toothpick thickness. And as long as not applying major pressure with it, or shoving through a thick hard material it will be fine! I was using it to shove holes into horse figures, and eventually bent the tip.
