NAKED GUN: FROM THE FILES OF POLICE SQUAD!, THE: Those screw-loose Airplane! Creators have done it again! Leslie Nielsen stars as Police Squad's own granite-jawed, rock-brained cop Frank Drebin, who bumbles across a mind-control scheme to assassinate Queen Elizabeth. Priscilla Presley, O.J. Simpson, a stuffed beaver, two baseball teams and an odd assortment of others join the wacko goings-on and blow the laugh-o-meter to smithereens. NAKED GUN 2 1/2: THE SMELL OF FEAR, THE: Leslie Nielsen returns as the intrepid (and accident-prone) Lt. Frank Drebin in Naked Gun 2 1/2: The Smell of Fear, "un film de David Zucker." This second feature film from the "Police Squad!" series finds Drebin as a guest at a White House dinner, receiving an award for shooting his 1,000th drug dealer, although he admits to shooting only 998 - he ran over the last two in his car. ("Luckily, they turned out to be drug dealers"). Also at the White House dinner is energy czar Dr. Albert S. Meinheimer (Richard Griffiths), whom President George Bush (John Roarke) has chosen to start a new national energy policy. Since Meinheimer believes in promoting alternative energy resources, the evil leaders of the polluting energy industries (coal, oil, and nuclear power-or the lobby groups SMOKE, SPILL and KABOOM) are horrified at Bush's choice. Joining together with arch-villain Quentin Hapsburg (Robert Goulet), they plan to kidnap the real Meinheimer and substitute a fake Meinheimer in his place who will enact energy policy according to the dictates of the energy lobby. Drebin becomes deeply involved in the conspiracy when he runs into his ex-girl friend Jane (Priscilla Presley), who is not only Meinheimer's public relations director but also Hapsburg's current paramour. NAKED GUN 33 1/3: THE FINAL INSULT, THE: The further misadventures of bumbling Los Angeles police Lieutenant Frank Drebin (Leslie Nielsen) are chronicled in this third installment in the popular Naked Gun comedy series. One of the best comedies ever
I never did care much for the 3rd movie, but the first 2 are great. Leslie Nielsen's total deadpan delivery makes them so much funnier. And the new one with Liam Neeson is right up there with them.

Comedy at is best. Three dvds. One price
How could you argue with three naked gun movies all in one set? This was a gag gift, but you’ll never stop laughing.

Three times funnier than regular comedy, that's for sure
"The Naked Gun Trilogy" may or may not be "three times deadlier than regular comedy," as this DVD's front cover copy proclaims. What's certain is that the three films contained within-"The Naked Gun: From The Files of Police Squad," "The Naked Gun 2 1/2: The Smell of Fear," and "The Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult"-are funnier than regular comedy. That's because the filmmakers are willing to do anything for a laugh-including slapstick, satire, scatological humor, and puns. And if one joke fails to work, which is rare, the next one will be on screen momentarily. There's little point in attempting to summarize plots, which exist merely as excuses on which the filmmakers-including David Zucker of "Airplane!" fame-hang all those jokes. The common thread connecting them all is the romance between Lt. Frank Drebin (Leslie Nielsen) and Jane Spencer (Priscilla Presley). As that plays out, Drebin finds himself going undercover as an umpire at Dodger Stadium to thwart an assassination attempt on Queen Elizabeth; stop a plot to sabotage national ecology policy; and go undercover once again as Phil Donahue to stop a terrorist from blowing up the Academy Awards. This last gives us one of the truly great lines of film dialogue: "Phil Donahue is puking in the trombone." And as if that weren't enough, we also get to see real celebrities such as Pia Zadora, Mary Lou Retton and James Earl Jones playing themselves while Drebin-as-Donahue turns the award ceremony into a disaster. Nielsen, Presley and George Kennedy-as Drebin's superior, Capt. Ed Hocken-are the glue holding these films together. None of them ever suggests they know all this funny stuff's going on around them. They play every pun, every one-liner, every slapstick routine and sight gag as seriously as if they were appearing in an actual 1960s TV police drama-appropriate, given that the films are adapted from the short-lived "Police Squad!" TV series of the early 1980s, which parodied 1960s police dramas. Like Don Adams, Barbara Feldon and Edward Platt in these films' cousin, the original "Get Smart" TV series, they're the center around which the madness revolves-a madness which extends even into the films' closing credits, so don't walk away from the screen once they start rolling. "The Naked Gun Trilogy" is goofy and lots of fun.

The naked gun trilogy is a masterwork of slapstick comedy. While there are some jokes that are very much not in vogue today, the trilogy is a wholly enjoyable experience. It is a bit weird going back to these movies though because OJ simpson plays a recurring character. To be fair to OJ, his performance as Nordberg is great. It's just weird seeing him from the pre-murder trial era. Anyways back on topic; Leslie Nielsen is amazing as always.

Not seen for many a year, it was a pleasure with reservations. No ONE _ The prologue. All those real tyrants played by lookalikes, spouting hatred and death to America. Funny? Maybe, but not much has cjhanged!!! Anyway, if you know what to expect in the way of humour, this trilogy won't let you down. Slapstick, subtle "doings" in the background and solid spot on performences from the cast especially George Kennedy and of course Nielsen. I thought No TWO was actually funnier than One, and THREE was OK but needed serious editing for the climax. Good VFM with commentaries and good subtitles. Will I watch them again in my lifetime? Possibly not but then I am "very old" (P.S. If you can do sit through and watch the end titles. They snuck in some funny ones.)
