I’m pretty mechanically inclined and this item has the worse directions I’ve ever seen. And of course when you look up videos about the product it’s all sponsored videos that don’t even show the steps that are the biggest issue (the poles etc)They also failed to mention you need to drill your own holes. Granted I have the tools but somehow broke 3 bits getting it done. Make sure you have more than one adjustable wrench. 4 hours of free time. You’re already in a bad mood and then you might be ready to tackle this.Worst was after all the work. Does it work? Well kind of…the wheel feels like it’s going to break with every turn. It’s not as easy as they show it to be. I have a smaller pool 12x20 and a basic cover and it’s almost too heavy for it to wind up and it doesn’t wind up even. And yes the clips are all placed same distance and same length evenly.Kinda mad at myself for not getting a pricy brand name. Oh well. Once it snaps in half which should be soon I’ll be replacing it.

I think that this Reel is very well made. It does come with lots of parts to put together and not sure that the instructions were as clear as they needed to be especially for how to put the straps on. As for the non-wheeled side of the cart, very unstable. When rolling a pool cover onto this reel,the footed side falls over. I hasto put a cinderblock on he footto keep from flipping over, or have someone hold it down.however...works great for storing cover

My pool is two years old now and this pool reel has been a great asset. I have a solar bubble cover that also works amazingly, keeping leaves and bugs out. And having this cover reel finishes it off well. It's lasted two seasons now. But I've had to beef it up a few times. I've pop riveted the weak spots where after many turns over a couple of years it just needs some TLC. I don't have any complaints because it's built well just like anything else it needs attention occasionally. Almost perfect but not.

The reel has 4 inner and 3 outer aluminum tubes that are all about 42 inches long. They are designed to be staggered to extend out to the length you need. Since my pool is only 12 feet wide I was able to cut down one of the inner tubes to get a little over 12 feet and use all 3 outer tubes to cover all the seams so that I had double wall construction the entire length except for about 6 inches on each end. I not only used all the screws supplied by the manufacturer I also used self tapping screws so that I have three rows of screws 120 degrees apart down the entire length of tubing to make the assembly as tight as possible. But, it still ended up sagging in the middle. So moving this reel with the solar blanket on it will only cause the sagging to increase.If the manufacturer built the reel in two foot sections doubling the wall thickness and bolting the sections end to end the sag would be eliminated. There would be a small increase in cost due to more aluminum used but, without the sag durability and quality go way up. Odd pool lengths could be achieved with making 12 inch and 6 inch lengths available.
