Cultivating Customers: A Farmer's Guide to Online Marketing Paperback – September 9, 2016

I have had a Small Farm Central website for many years and have always appreciated the knowledge, guidance and support received from Simon and his staff. Cultivating Customers is another solid pillar in simon's 'farmer support system'. I farmed I for a long time with no clear marketing plan in place, and I now feel prepared to finally create a plan and materials that are targeted to the different customer segments we sell to ( direct consumer, small retail, food hub). Each chapter contains specific tips and and actions that can be used immediately. Easy to read, well organized, relevant to any kind of farming. Also great for market managers, CSA managers. I will definitely use the clear explanations and specific examples for utilizing Tech-y things I am not so familiar wit - i.e. Twitter, instagram, and will implement both in my marketing this season. the book offers a lot of concise information supported by excellent examples and ideas for implementation.

I really appreciated all the helpful information in this book! I'm not a born marketer, so having a resource that gives me step-by-step instruction and lots of good ideas on how to market my farm has been great! Even in the best of times, making a living farming isn't super easy, so not having to reinvent the wheel of actually figuring out how to sell what you grow makes it just that much easier. This book provides a great overview on marking concepts and modern strategies that farmers can use to help build their customer base. It is enjoyable to read and easy to jump around to the chapters that are most relevant to you. While the concepts can apply to a lot of farm business models there is the most information about marketing CSAs. I would have enjoyed more examples of how to market a farm that is focused on wholesale.

Very helpful and specific information in this book about improving farm marketing. It is a quick read for a busy farmer and cuts to the chase with practical tips.

I really enjoyed the approaches to integrating different social media into a marketing schedule. There was a lot of great insight into increasing your farm retention. I think this is a great book for farmers aiming to improve their marketing!
