Mi piaccino talmente tanto che mi sono preso tutti e i CD. Consigliatissimo album

Being away from the music scene for a decade,as an entity that is would be awkward for anyone. Not only had Dave Stewart and Annie Lennox been active on their own since the release of the previous Eurythmics album  We Too Are One  and the one thing that needs to be said about this album was that since that time there had been at least two major changes on the pop music front. The 1990's had seen rock,R&B and electronic music make abrupt turns away from each other as bringing different music's together became less important than expressing bitterness about the music industry and producing a lot of loud,dreary sounding music. This became such a significant part of the alternative rock scene of the era that a lot of more varied and unique music under the same moniker wasn't as noticed as it should've been. At the end of the decade alternative rock was trying to present that more varied front commercially and it was during that era that the Eurythmics decided to release this album. It wasn't really a long term process;it happened quickly and organically. For those who really appreciated the mixture of electronica,R&B and rock they might find this album mildly disappointing because overall it concentrates on something a few Eurythmics albums had trouble doing consistantly:heavy songcraft. All of the songs on this album are rich in ethereal harmonies,melodic ideas and some very strong hooks. Most of them are written from the acoustic guitar up (which you'll see on the unplugged/live in the studio bonus tracks) and they tend to have a lot of drama to them. A couple songs,while well constructed "Power To The Meek" and "I Want It All" have some very silly sounding attempts at embracing the loud guitar heavy alternative/grunge sound but by and large this album concentrates on softer tunes such as the nostalgiac "17 Again" and the mildly surf influenced "I Saved The World Today". That song,"Beautiful Child","Peace Is Just A Word" and "Anything But Strong" all employ a series of excellent lyrics that draw a double meaning between outer peace and inner peace and how eventually the two concepts do and will interconnect. One thing this album does have in common with some of their latter 80's albums is a flair with orchestral pop such as the swelling final tune "Lifted". Of the bonus songs a cover of "Something In The Air" is a great dance-pop-synth tune that was definately recorded in the later (original) Eurythmics period;why it's included as a bonus on this particular album I don't know but it's a worthy inclusion. The original CD version of this album somehow ended up getting overlooked when it first came out and is still a common presense in CD bargain bins everywhere. Even though this remastered edition only came along six years after the album was first released the liner notes and the unplugged acoustic bonus versions of the hits on the album really help to explain the difference in sound and approch. Ein Must-Have. Sehr persönliches Album nach der Reunion in 1999. Audiophil und sehr gut arrangiert. Tolles Cover und Inlays. Peace ist zeitlos und sagt viel aus. Passt auch in die heutige Zeit. Hiermit machen sich Annie und Dave unsterblich. Absolut hörenswert. Klare Kaufempfehlung. Der Preis ist zudem unschlagbar attraktiv.

L'album de la maturité

Obwohl viele ganz anderer Meinung sind, ist es für mich das beste Eurythmics-Album! Warum? Es ist wie als wären Dave Stewart und Annie Lennox nach einer langen Reise wieder zusammengekommen und hätten all ihre Erfahrungen in das Werk gesteckt, um es reicher zu machen, als jedes ihrer Alben zuvor gewesen war. Klar, es klingt nicht mehr wirklich so wie das, was sie in den 80ern gemacht haben, aber zugegeben, dann wäre es wohl doch ein deutlich eingestaubteres, emotionsloseres Album, oder nicht?Annie Lennox fand mit ihren Soloalben eine Art des Ausdrucks, den es auf keinem ihrer vorherigen Werke in dieser Form und Intensität gegeben hat - "Peace" wird damit zu einem hymnischen musikalischen Zeugnis in dem alles zwar rauer, aber echter, lebhafter klingt. Es geht um tiefste Emotion, die hier nach oben kommt. Es ist ein Album, das sich einem vielleicht nicht gleich beim ersten Durchhören erschließt - allerdings sind solche dann eben die, die eine viel länger anhaltende Wertigkeit und Wirkung haben können.Songs wie "17 Again" und "Forever" sind so überschwänglich, dass sie fast schon zu viel sind, was aber gerade den Reiz eben dieser Lieder ausmacht. "I've Tried Everything" (mein persönlicher Favorit - in seiner ursprünglichen Fassung, vor der Remastered Version) bewegt mich zutiefst mit den eher zurückhaltenden Instrumental, in dem jeder verwaschene Streicher und jede Gitarre perfekt abgemischt ist so dass es klingt, als würden sie einem sanft das Gesicht streicheln. "I Saved The World Today" hat im Text zwar "blunt naivite", wodurch es aber doch sogar noch ehrlicher, echter wird. Die sanften Streicher sind hier ebenso magisch-melancholisch eingesetzt. "Peace Is Just A Word" setzt textlich auf ähnliches, wenngleich hier wieder das Orchester groß aufspielt. Fast schon psychedelisch und wild krachen "Power To The Meek" und "I Want It All" rein, während bei "My True Love und "Anything But Strong" wieder die sanfte Melancholie plätschert. Zum Schluss noch erwähnenswert ist "Lifted", das mit einem getragenen Soul das Finale macht.Alles in allem hat "Peace" eine wundersame instrumentale Kulisse, die eine ganze Klangfarbe hervorbringt, die das Thema der Texte sehr gut unterstreicht. Annie Lennox Vocals haben hierbei den bestmöglichen Ausdruck, um es zu einem Gesamtkunstwerk zu vervollständigen.
