Portable EL Wire 10 Feet Long (White) by GrayBean

The battery holder for these is terrible. I ordered three, and on all three, my standard AA batteries don't fit well, and don't make contact half the time. Either the units won't turn on, or they flicker off with any movement (not good for a costume.) The contacts for the + end of each battery are too short, and too low. I had to move and super-glue the metal bar in a different position, and put solder dots on the contacts to make them work remotely reliably. Unless you plan to do similar hacking just get them to work, avoid these at all costs.

The battery packs that are currently being sent out with the product do not work. You can hold the button down (very hard) to get a faint flickering, but it will not stay on. The el wire itself works if plugged into a different battery pack. I assume that there was something wrong with the wiring, but it isn't an isolated incident as it occurred with two different orders of different colored el wire (blue and white). Find another source for your glow in the dark needs.

Was going to use it to line the hood of my car, but it's not worth it, so it became a cat toy for my American shorthair Roxy. She loves to chase and paw at the glowing/flashing light string. I'll certainly order another one of these to use for accent lighting. If you decide to use rechargeable batteries, they'll work just fine, but be aware that some may not fit, as some rechargeables are slightly fatter than alkalines.

Item arrived and though it wasn't suitable for the project I initially intended for (I was hoping they had a white EL wire that really was white and didn't have the blue tint every EL wire I've seen has) it was better then I expected. As mentioned the wire does glow a pale blue, not white. Also as mentioned this seems to be an inherent problem with "white" EL wire, not just the wire from this company. At this price I figured I'd buy some as a sample to check it out. The inverter was a pleasant surprise. It has constant on, slow blink, fast blink and of course off settings. Which makes it ideal for a different project I'm working on. The wire even had a moisture preventing end cap on it. If I were to buy 10ft of white EL wire and a comparable inverter from my normal source it would've been over $20 before the shipping. When time isn't a factor I'll deal with this company again and save some money. Even with the shipping from China this was under half the price, so when I can wait 4-5 weeks for arrival I will.

A novelty piece more than anything. It doesn't let off very much light and the last 8 inches or so have a tendency not to light up. Still kinda cool to play with. Could make some cool costumes with it or do some unique lighting in your car.

I bought this like a year ago and just found it again in my closet when I was cleaning some things out. It's flimsy, crappy, and doesn't work. It went right in the trash. Save your money.

The EL wire itself works very nicely however, the controller emits a very high pitched whining sound and is very irritating. If you do buy this item, place the controller box near your feet or in your pocket.

A little disappointed with the brightness of this. If it is in a dark room or outside at night then it's noticeable but not in a regular lighted room or lighted street. It is cheap and maybe I will using in a Halloween costume but I will not buy this product again.
