A Delightful, Steamy Sequel That Will Leave You Begging for More
Okay, I just have to start out this review with: Sweet baby Jesus this book was so amazing, and you need to go out and buy this NOW!!! Like, immediately, because you don't know what you're missing. This book was everything I could ask for and more, and I can't wait to see what Ms. Higgins has in store for us next. There are some spoilers in this so be warned!Sweet Peril starts off a couple months later than where Sweet Evil ended, and it doesn't slow down. Anna is no longer the sweet, innocent girl we knew in the first book. She's now "working" for her dad, being the party girl that all the Dukes expect her to be. But, don't fear because it's all for appearances. Anna is hating what she's become and what she has to do. Tis was one of the things I loved about this book. Ms. Higgins made the emotions of Anna seem completely real and genuine. It felt like Anna's emotions were pouring off the page. Anna as a character has become a fantastic main character that is tough and ready to fight. Anna handled everything that was thrown at her with grit and strength, never backing down. I can't wait to see her blossom even more in the next book after learning that she is the key to banishing the Dukes, and once and for all freeing their children from their services. Now onto our favorite bad boy, Kaidan Rowe...well he's hotter and badder than ever, and I loved every single second of it. While I was mad at Kaidan for a good portion of this book, once the truth came out, I was back to my Team Kaidan self. I knew that there was something more to the story, so I held onto my Kaidan-love, but he did have me worried for a couple minutes. Once things are resolved between Anna and Kaidan, things heat up like an oven. There are some absolutely beautiful and steamy moments that will leave any fan longing for much, much more. The minor characters in the previous book came shining through in this novel, and you learn a bit more about all of them. I especially loved Kopano (just...sigh, I love that boy almost as much as Kaidan), Marna, and Blake. Blake is just hilarious and had me laughing so hard, and Marna is the friend we all want. I would love to see some novellas or spin-off novels with a bunch of these characters just to read some more about them.Ultimately, I loved the storyline. Ms. Higgins has created such a unique, creative world that sucks you in, and never lets you go. I couldn't put this book down, and finished it in one sitting because it is just that good. The story starts with so much tension and adventure, and that never goes away. It is a roller coaster ride from beginning to end, and you never want to get off. I can't wait to see what Sweet Reckoning is about because it's sure to be fantastic! I don't know how I'm going to wait another year...it's already killing me!5++++++++ stars

Kaiden fans should find plenty to swoon about!
It's book two in a trilogy, and you know what that means? The hero and heroine are going to separated for some reason, right? It seems like that is what happens in every single trilogy I read ... I fall in love with a couple, only to have them fall apart for much of the second book until they finally find a way to make it work in book three. It can be heart-wrenching at times. Well, before beginning Sweet Peril I was worried for sweet Anna and her bad-boy (sort of) love, Kaidan. There didn't seem to be any way for these two to be together in the crazy world in which they live, and Kaidan seemed determined to not allow his heart to guide both of them to certain destruction. So he left. And that is how Sweet Peril begins. Kaidan is all the way across the country in LA. Months have passed, but Anna is still in love with him and in a definite funk. With legionnaires watching her moves much more closely after the events at the end of the first book, Anna throws herself into her work as a drinking tempter. She goes from being known as the good girl to being known as the party girl. She has changed. Sort of. The reality is that she is still the good girl she has always been, but she is trying to make things work in a world where she is required to at least appear like she is tempting the people around her to drink alcohol. Seeing Anna like this was a little sad for me. I felt like part of her was being destroyed each time she worked for the Dukes to bring others down. I think that Kaidan agrees. To all of you Kaidan fans out there ... be aware that he is not around for much of the first half of the book. When he is, it is awesome, but for most of the first half of the book Anna is sent on missions with Kopano. They are travelling around the world to recruit possible Neph allies to help them overthrow the Dukes and bring freedom to the Nephs. Kopano is in love with Anna. Anna finds herself mildly attracted to Kopano, but it is nothing compared to her feelings for Kaidan. Kaidan seems unattainable. Kopano would be an easier relationship. But Anna can't bring herself to feel that way about him. I was a bit worried that we were heading into love triangle territory, but it never quite gets there, thank goodness. I do love Kopano as a character, and I felt so bad for him at times in this story ... but I think things are looking up for him by the end of the book. Hurray!VERY mild spoilery ahead:I loved this second book in the Sweet trilogy. I will admit that there is a different feel to this book compared to the first book. For much of the book Anna and Kopano are sent on missions. We are introduced to other Nephs who are not so happy with their lot in life. There is a lot of angst about Kaidan and his apparent lack of feelings for Anna coupled with Kopano and his multitude of feelings for her. I felt like we were almost in a holding pattern, waiting for something to happen to light a fire somewhere, either between Anna and Kaidan or Anna and Kopano. Finally, half way through the book that fire is lit. And it was AWESOME! Kaidan and Anna had some great scenes together leading up to that point, but it was in the airport as Anna was leaving Kaidan that we finally got to see Kaidan come clean about his feelings for her. I LOVED that scene. After waiting a book and a half Kaidan and Anna were going to be together. Somehow. The truth is that they still face the danger from the Dukes who do not allow relationships among their children. If they are discovered, Kaidan and Anna will be publicly killed. Add to that the fact that they are actively plotting to overthrow the Dukes, and Anna and Kaidan are in some serious danger if the truth comes out.I adore Kaidan as a character. He has spent his entire life locking his heart because of his horrible responsibilities to his father, but Anna changes him. He wants to be good ... or at least better. This pull in him is so fascinating. But I have to admit, in this book I missed a bit of his internal struggles. Once he chose to be with Anna he lost a bit of his edge. Don't get me wrong. I was cheering him on all the way, and I am glad for his decisions in this book, but after the issues between Anna and him are mostly resolved, a great source of conflict in the story ended. What follows is A LOT of great Kaidan romantic moments. He is definitely AMAZING, but taking away that anxiety he had been dealing with for so much of the first book and the beginning of this one also ended up taking away some of the elements that made the previous book soar above a crowded field of paranormal romances. I still loved it, but it did knock this story down a tiny little bit for me.I have to admit, I expected the entire world to fall apart for Anna at some point during the second half of this book. Once she seemed to finally get the chance to be with Kaidan officially I was convinced that something horrible was going to happen to take this away from her. I thought that they would be caught and punished. I thought that one of their friends would end up being a traitor. I thought that someone would end up dead. So every scene was so stressful to me. Stuff does happen, but nothing as horrible as I was expecting. I'm going to have to go back and re-read this, knowing that. It will help me to savor the moments a lot more. In a way, I think that this really shows the power of Wendy Higgins's writing because as a reader I was feeling the same sort of day to day anxiety about the future as the main characters were. Very well written in this regard! This is a great addition to the Sweet trilogy. There is a lot that these Nephs are going to have to overcome in the finale. But Anna and Kaidan have each other finally. And they have a good and solid group of friends at their side (I love Blake!). I can't wait to see what happens next. Four stars!

Sweet!
I really loved this book! We started to learn so much about all of the characters and the world that Anna has found herself in, its great watching her travel that line of both good and bad but handle herself so well!I really loved how we got to see so many more characters in this one and learn more about everyone, the story just kept getting better for me and I really couldn't wait for the next one to come out.The concept is so true to how the world really is but just in the extreme case and its a really enjoyable readI love Kai and hearing more about him is always good even if some of the things he did this book made me really mad and think Oi!Plus the details that we see about the characters and what they go through as neph with there Duke fathers, its not always a great picture and the book mentions it well.Really excited for the last one and see how this epic story ends

Not much can go wrong in a book. But ...
Not much can go wrong in a book. But gives me a feeling that this is not a legit copy looking at the cover page.I so hope that it is. Because if I wanted a pirated copy, I could have bought it at any road side vendor. Well, cant say looking at the cover though.

Couldn't put it down
Just as good as the first! Loved getting to see more of the Neph, even ones from outside the crew. A little less emotional than the last but still gets those feels going. Lots of sneaking around, making plans and watching their backs. Overall a great read!

Adoro!
Adoro, adoro, adoro!

Die for Kai
Sweet Peril picks up in the months after Sweet Evil and we witness a totally new side to Anna. Forced to work, in order to keep up appearances, she has become quite the party girl, the lifeblood of her school social scene.Anna still pines for Kaidan Rowe though he won't have anything to do with her. It's heart-breaking, even though you know he is only staying away because he thinks it's the right thing to do. He crops up in a few minor scenes in the first half of the book but I missed him terribly, and I was so happy when I kicked into the second half of the story and he was a regular feature. The first part of the book is largely taken up with Kope and Anna jet-setting around the world to gather more allies. The prophecy has been revealed and the Neph finally have a chance at reclaiming their lives and ridding the world of all demons. It's not without danger and they need to stay one step ahead of the Dukes at all times. We learn more about the other Nephs in this book and I particularly warmed to Blake (he's a riot) and Marna (she's a sweetheart). The family connection is still strong, which I love, although I was shocked at her dad's actions. Surely a man who has spent years pining for his true love wouldn't do that to his own daughter?!When Kaidan and Anna finally open their hearts to one another I felt like getting up and dancing a jig! Yay! Sorry, but I didn't feel any compassion for Kope, nice guy, but he was never going to get the girl. All in all another fantastic read from Wendy Higgins - accomplished writing, brilliant execution. The only issue I have now is that Kaidan Rowe is pushing for a No. 1 spot on my book boyfriend list. It's starting to get real competitive at the top and I don't know how I'm going to choose. (It's not like I can bump Edward, Aiden St. Delphi or Roth off the podium.)Nice dilemma! He! he!
