Incredible account of Bosnian/Serb war
There are not enough accolades for this Pulitzer prize winning journalist who has written an outstanding account of the war between the Bosnian Muslims and the Christian Serbs in the early ninety's.I remember quite clearly this being reported on in the news as the war progressed and it was a little confusing for me at the time.Sheri Fink has written a clear and precise history on the events that took place within the besieged town of Srebrenica in war ravaged Bosnia, with a group of dedicated and overwrought doctors and nurses as the main core to the story.Although the story is told from the Bosnian perspective Fink describes the atrocities committed on both sides which eliminates any form of bias. However she concentrates on Srebrenica and the unfolding of events that took place there, culminating in mass killings of the civilian population.Could this genocide have been prevented? She questions the integrity and effectuality of the United Nations and the major players among the world powers and how much their refusal to intercede affected the terrible outcome in Srebrenica. This is a large book with small print and at first glance can be quite daunting, however this quite brilliant book reads like a novel and if you enjoy tension, history and intelligent writing you will be engrossed from the first page.It certainly asks the reader to ponder the immorality of war.

Doctors Against the World
Very well written narrative, exploring the struggles understaffed, overworked, and in a lot of cases under-educated doctors who risk there lives to treat there patients during a time of war, often in EXTREME circumstances. It is a very striking story in that some doctors join the fight, some stay neutral, others just get lost in the horrible world that there previously beautiful home has turned into. It really make you think what you would have done in there position and question ones own moral fiber. It also makes one question governments and there priorities. In some places the book digresses into too much history which was hard in some places to get through, but it was necessary for the overall picture for this true story. I good read for anyone who is interested in medicine, ethics, history or a great dramatic narrative.

Interesting read
It is a very in depth look at the Serb/Bosnian war. If you like history and many details that weren't revealed during the war or the years after it is an interesting read. It provides a look at the genocide that took place against the Muslims and how the world looked away and let it happen. Sheri Fink does a great job of staying with the facts and not letting personal feelings get in the way of her writing.

Love!!!
I didnt think this book would suck me in like it has. Especially when compared with the current atmosphere in health care. I have really enjoyed the different perspectives and even asked a friend about his experience growing up Serbian during this time! Highly recommend for any healthcare provider!

Brutality and bravery in the modern world
This story brings the brutality of war and the brave doctors who tried to save as many as they could with limited supplies to the forefront. It is tragic and horrific that people must live in such circumstances and often the victims of the war are women and children.

Thus I learned a great deal from the book
Well researched with a lot of detail. I was in residency when this happened so it was off my radar. Thus I learned a great deal from the book.

True extraordinary story of determination and survival in war
Detailed descriptive story of a heroic medical group under the most horrific circumstance that a town lived during the war of the Balkans. It makes one feel guilty and mad as hell that these happen during our times while the world watches.

Print painfully small difficult to read
I am so interested in this period of history especially from a medical perspective. But because the print is so small I can only read for short periods. The book was shipped in a timely manner.
