Q: Is the spout made of stainless steel, too? Or is it chromed plastic?

Very unfortunately, the top is chromed plastic.

I must say, I had this concern too. Is chromed plastic. But wait a minute, I have a refrigerator now bout thirty years old, with this same chromed covering. I never ever had flaking or any problem with this. It was around the ice dispenser on the front of door, so it has got lots of use. Still sparkel shine , still no flaking. Now this is the same on the stainless thermal carafe. So not to worry it's thick and looks good and sturdy. Hand wash be careful with spout. I use mine and I give a good review ok.
