Not worthy of Jack Higgins
I've been a fan of Jack Higgins ever since I read "The Eagle Has Landed". The book transported me to another time and place and thoroughly engaged me. It's a great summer book. Other World War II books such as "Night of the Fox" and "Cold Harbor" were equally engaging, and I absolutely loved "Pay The Devil", so I had great hopes for this book. I'm not a fan of most of his Sean Dillon series books, but I thought that since this one dealt with issues from World War II that it might be a good read. I was mistaken. If you've read any Higgins, you know that much of what he has produced is formua writing, but his genius is in making formula writing new and fresh and engaging every time, so much so that you'll want to pick the book up again and again even though you know where it's going and may not like the ending. While this book too is formula, it is not fresh and it's not engaging. I'm ashamed to say that I actually put the book down about 2/3 of the way through - something I very, very rarely do. I suppose that if you like some of his later books, you might find it a good read, but for me, it was not money well spent.

Something Special
Surprise, surprise- it starts off strong and gets stronger as time goes byWar, murder, mayhem and love seem to follow our heroThru hell and high waterAs always the author keeps us on our toes looking forward to the next page. A great read, worth reading a second time to see what we missed. My thanx to Jack Higgins

An excellent story of the British SAS in World War II, and long-lasing resultd.
It is well written, moves swiftly, and holds your interest. It is very unfortunate that these editions of this author's books are printed in tiny typeface, which makes them difficult to read comfortably. Whose idea was it to do this?

The start of it all
I have been a fan of jack Higgins for years. As usual I throughly enjoyed this, his first novel. It contains warfare, romance, mystery. The only drawback for me was that it seemed a little jerky in the sequencing. Still a good story by a great storyteller.

Another Great Higgin's Novel
This book written early in his writing career shows the talent that has entertained me for so many years. I've read a great number of his books and have nothing to criticize.

Starting Out Behind
Lorax returns to a WWII commando site and finds out that everyone knows something that he doesn’t know. That puts him behind the locals in a race to find a killer. A good story of trust and friendship with a love chaser.

I guess that you can't argue with success. This book is predictable in that it adheres to the Jack Higgins formula. It holds some interest but you can almost guess at what will happen next.........according to the formula.
