Q: How does this work with dogs and cats?

I would say it depends on the size and energy level of the dog, I have a 17 LB cat and it’s strong enough to support his weight hanging on it.

Q: Can this be attached to the ceiling if the entryway has no door frame or even a wall up top?

No. It’s not long enough to reach my ceiling without leaving a big gap open at the bottom. It is about 2 inches longer than my bedroom door frame.

Q: How do you stick it to the floor?

Peal back the tape and stick it to the door jam, wall and floor., if you have carpet use small tacks to go through the carpet. That's what I did.
