Great tool for long driveways
Have watched this product over the years and finally bought one. I like it but the wife is not happy with the false alarms. It seems that it picks up the swaying of branches 20 feet away. There is no information about the left/right limits of the viewing angle but overall so it is a trial and error placement. We now know when deliveries are arriving without being surprised!

No false alarms yet-UPDATE-Still no false alarms
-----UPDATE: No false alarms after more than two months of use!!! Literally none. -----ORIGINAL: While the setup of the sensor takes a minute, and is not easy to see tiny text on control board, it is over and long forgotten. The sensor, once installed onto a well-planted, 4' high 4"x4" post, has had zero false alarms in the first week of use. Also does not appear to have missed a vehicle yet, which is so much better than all of the other systems I have tried. I have tried MANY systems, including owning the older, black Dakota driveway alarm, it worked very well and is the reason why I chose Dakota again this time. The passive infrared is the way to go if you are using the sensor in a windy area or with lots of small animals/birds. We used to get dozens of false alarms day and night, and now there is peace and quiet in the house. The wireless receiver can be carried around the property with me (3.5 acres) or taken from room to room to keep me alerted to traffic on our road. Also can be set to vibrate and is only the size of a thick iPod. We live in a 5-home, no-outlet subdivision and there are generally only our neighbors & deliveries to be aware of. So when it goes off in the middle of the night, action is warranted. Sensor is installed approx. 250' from receiver and transmits through cement stucco walls. Very valuable tool, seems reliable, worth the cost compared to the 100's of dollars I have wasted on IR motion sensor systems that crap out quickly in Arizona weather. One other feature, this passive IR system does NOT glow red like the regular IR systems. Their red glow eventually attracted birds, which pecked at the plastic and then broke the sensors!! Recommended so far, tossing my Guardline in the trash and purchasing 3 more sensors for this Dakota system.

Amazon delivery solution
It's been installed a short time but so far so good. It was purchased for the front porch it's was mounted on the porch ceiling at the entrance as a solution for amazon delivery people . They are not smart enough to follow instructions and ring the doorbell

Too many false alarms
I’ve replaced my old driveway alarm sensors with these as my old solar ones were degrading after a few years. These ones are robust and easy to set up, but I’m getting constant false alarms in warm weather. There is no movement at all to set them off and even when set on low sensitivity, I’m still getting false alarms at the rate of about every 30 minutes. This is very annoying and actually makes this system less effective than the cheaper system which I replaced. I do not recommend this product.

One Mile Range Isn't True
Bought this as a gift for friend; the driveway is a half mile. Unfortunately, they didn't get to set it up until the return window was over. It wouldn't receive the signal from the front gate. Two people were on cell phones, one at the house with receiver and one on the driveway with the detector. Kept moving closer and closer until it would get the signal and the alarm would go off. It only works about 500 feet away, in a location on the driveway where you can just see it from the front porch. So, the one mile range is false. I'm guessing it would only work if it were a straight driveway with no woods; which kind of defeats the purpose as you'd be able to see incoming vehicles at that point. This would have been great as the wireless receiver would be so helpful when working on various parts of the property. I wouldn't recommend this product and if it had been installed sooner I would have returned it for not working properly. It is used and is good to know when a delivery is being made; but again, it gives only a five second heads up since it is so close to the house. If you're living in a rural area; this isn't your product.

Great for detecting wildlife
I have a security camera set up for recording/viewing foxes as they go in and out of a den on my property. I needed something that would detect a fox and record the date/time stamp and give me an audible signal. It looked like the MTPR-4000 would serve the purpose. I emailed Dakota Alert to see if they thought it would work and Jason responded very quickly saying that even though the DCMT-4000 sensor is designed for a much bigger target (fox considered a nuisance alert), with certain sensitivity settings (user settable), it should work. I have had it installed for a week now and have had several "fox alerts" with no nuisance signals, so I am very happy knowing when my little friends are coming and going and watching them on video.

Not reliable!
Doesn’t notify regularly. I have two and the closest is 100 feet away and farthest 300 feet. The farthest notifies about 75% of the time and the closest about 25%. I’ve changed all the settings several times and even moved the annunciation closer but no change. You can walk by it 5’ away and nothing and then a minute later and it will annunciation, a car can drive by and nothing but drive by again and it will annunciation. Not dependable at all!

I had been using this to cover a gate for many years with the 2500 and 3000 series. The new 4000 series seems to work much better. People walking by will set off the alarm but I wanted it to detect vehicles waiting at the gate. With the old system it was a bit hit and miss but the newer system has not so far in 2 weeks failed to detect a vehicle waiting at the gate. One problem with this system is that it will work great with a car which is warm but often fails to pick up a car exiting which I put down to the car not warm. As is used to detect a vehicle arriving then the chances are it will not be a cold just started up vehicle this has worked OK for what I needed. If you would need it to be 100% on vehicle detection on warn or cold vehicles then it maybe better to go for the probe version or the rubber hose version. I could not use the probe as is too close to the road and next to a large metal gate. I did also buy the rubber hose version but have yet to try as this is so far doing the job and I still have not been able to straighten out the rubber hose which came coiled up. The new style pager receiver is almost twice the size of the old style but battery lasts much longer and is much more reliable receiving a signal. I have found it well worth the money and works much better than the older 2500/3000 series.
