When I got this cover I had forgotten that it was supposed to be leather, therefore I was not disappointed. When I was asked to review this as a leather cover... Well... lets just said that overall it does exactly what it should. It covers my checks, has a money slot, a pen slot and more than enough cc slots. But.. it is not a leather cover by any means. it does not look like leather. It does not smell like leather. And there is no indication in any writing or labeling that it is leather. Therefore it got a one star rating.

Cute cover. Was looking for a sturdy case with snap closure. I only use this to hold my checkbook, so it closes nicely since I don’t have anything extra.When it first came, I was a little confused with which way to place the plastic insert because my old checkbook came with it already attached.**see 3rd pic** The insert is a 3 fold and came in a U shape. Figured out it’ll work best in a Z shape so I just folded one side the other way, tucked it behind the back cover of my checkbook, and now I can use it for CC checks.Hopes this helps someone else out because it was odd the way it came.

Ok, I have to be honest. I didn't order this checkbook holder for its bells and whistles. All I wanted was a decent checkbook holder. As far as that functionality goes, I'm quite satisfied. The material is nice and soft to the touch, the stitching looks to be pretty neat, and it folds up nicely, snapping securely. The pen slot in the folding area is a little bit tricky because the material there isn't reinforced, so getting the pen's clip to slide in takes a bit of work. But I imagine that it will be easier once the checkbook holder is worn in a bit. Just for the sake of making a complete review, I went ahead and loaded up the card holder slots. All of those slots are nice and loose, making it easy to insert and remove the cards. The ID holder does seem to be a bit tighter than the others, but it isn't too difficult. Plenty of other wallets out there with ID holders should have come with a pair of pliers. I'll take "a little effort" over "nigh impossible" any day. Fully loaded with a checkbook, pen, and 6 cards, it takes a bit of effort to get the snap lined up, but once it's snapped closed, it seems to hold quite securely. As far as RF blocking goes, I haven't tried it out, so I can't say how well that feature works.I won't go so far as to call this checkbook holder perfect, but it has a nice look and feel. I'd go so far as to say that it looks professional. As a guy, I'm not in the habit of carrying a purse, and I think it's fair to say that this checkbook holder won't fit entirely into tight jeans pockets, or in rear pockets (like any other checkbook holder, it'll probably stick out of the pocket and be tempting to pickpockets), but in a side pocket in a pair of slacks with larger pockets, it's probably just fine. Also, it would work just fine as a wallet stored in a purse or bag.

I have really been enjoying this checkbook. I kept needing checks and forgetting them at home. I like how it is kinda small but holds all the important stuff. I usually never have the pen in it, but when you do have a pen its a little weird to close. I've had it for maybe 2 months now and nothings broken nor has come lose to where it felt cheap. For the price it was a great buy and is doing exactly what I needed it to. I have nothing bad to say. I hope the pictures help.

Good leather checkbook covers have vanished from general retail - because we use plastic so much. Doesn't mean there is no demand, but Bigbox mercantile doesn't cater to older users as it's such a small part of the market now. This is well designed, came with the carbonless check protector, and has plenty of room for cards, too. Timely shipping despite Amazon's failure to deliver the first time - my gen doesn't wait to the last minute. Overall the product will have to actually be used for a year to determine durability, and layout etc is up to the one I'm gifting it - who's birthday is next week. Goes to - the generation who uses checks plans ahead . . . and is in no rush to determine things until months go by. Hence a lack of instantaneous response on a item that should last a decade, just like the last one.
