Yarn winder is sturdy and works well, just go at a quick pace
I bought this yarn winder a few weeks ago. I looked online for reviews, but most of the reviews here are for Darice looms and other products, not the yarn winder. I did find some youtube tutorials and read some reviews online before buying (note, this model is the same as the Loops & Threads brand yarn winder).I really like it. It's sturdy, easy to set up and use. It will hold around 4 oz of yarn. You can't make large cakes on this. If you have a big skein, you'll need to break it up into 2-3 cakes. But if you're using a regular 3 oz to 4 oz skein, then it's great. One of the complaints I saw about this yarn winder (aside from it not being able to wind a large skein), is that the yarn would get caught behind the shaft. To use this winder, you need to put your yarn through the notch (or notches), feed the yarn through the tensioner, and wrap it around the shaft a few times, then hold the yarn up at an angle wind at a steady clip. After you wind it around 2-3 times, go at a fast pace; don't wind slowly as it says on the directions.Make sure your fingers are guiding the tension. The tensioner is only going to do so much and if you just let the yarn hang loose and don't control it with your fingers, then you're more likely to have issues. The yarn winder is a little noisy. It doesn't bother me at all, but if you want a quiet machine, this isn't it. It sounds like a sewing machine when you run it. It works very similar to how a bobbin winder works on a sewing machine, so this makes sense.I like that the yarn winder is small, relatively portable, easy-to-use, and it doesn't have a lot of parts. It's already assembled and you just have to slide the metal clamp into the slot on the back of the winder and then secure it to a table. I give it 4.5 stars. I'm very happy with my purchase so far!

Definitely worth the $18, easy and effective!
I’m honestly shocked at how well this little dude works for how affordable it is. The instructions are trash and the first one is “secure to table”, but they don’t really show you how. There’s a slot at the handle-end of the winder for your clamp to fit into, FYI.Aside from that, it’s SO easy to figure out quickly and just use. I’m SHOCKED at how much yarn I was able to fit on there! I had an entire ball of Lion brand scarified yarn (312 yds/285m = 5.3oz/150g) and it worked my poor mangled ball into a beautiful cake! I work center-pull for the most part, which also means I have a lot of limp and wimpy leftover yarn shells to deal with. Cleaned those up real nice with this winder! So, it works great for all lengths of yarn, and I’ve used a size 5bulky weight in it as well! Don’t have a 6 to test with but I think it should probably still fit in the little tension arm just fine.Totally happy!

It works! Not the highest quality thing, but it does the job
Its pretty cool! Has indefinitely made my crochet life easier, as using yarn out of these "cakes" is faster and less frustrating than straight out of that yarn tube thats full of knots. The size of the roll, if you keep going until it wont do any more because its so full, is actually a decent size and fits in my yarn bowl perfectly. I was worried at first because it didnt seem like it would make a big roll of yarn in the beginning, but if you keep going it gets to a size youd more expect. Its super easy to use, it doesnt require assembly or anything, unless you count that extra piece that clamps it to the table. Its pretty self explanatory. The down side is that after rolling up a few skeins of yarn on it, it got noisy. It started with kind of a rickety sound, then it started squeaking as you turned the handle. It doesnt affect the performance or anything, but it kind of shows that its not fantastic quality. Oh well. It does what I want it to!

Piece of junk
I bought this hoping to wind yarn with it and upon the third use there were pieces of it falling apart. It never affixed well to any surface and my husband would hold it down while I attempted to spin the yarn. It comes with no real directions, I learned how to use it from youtube. It never worked very well, the yarn would gather up at the top of the device so would "fall off" the yarn ball. I expected it to work better than it did and now the 30 day return period is over, so I am stuck with it. Guess I will keep having my wonderful husband roll my yarn into balls for me. Don't buy this product!

Okay product
This is an awesome product. I choose this one because it had the best customer rating. It took me seconds to set up and attach to my table. This is almost as much fun as knitting. I used this to roll all of my stray yarn and it cleaned up an entire pile of yarn. The third time I used it I found the little wire dohickey on the side that makes it even better. Anyone who uses a lot of yarn would appreciate this item. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that it winds very small balls of yarn. You have to break a 4 oz. skein into 5 or 6 separate balls which means tying a lot of knots. It is well worth it for me.***UPDATE: Although this is nice to use, the yarn is very difficult to work with because the ball falls apart very quickly and you are left with a tangled mess that usually gets thrown away. For center pull yarn I keep it like it is but other yarn gets made into balls. If anyone can tell me how to keep the balls from falling apart I will give another star

It really works!
Not knowing if I'd really use the yarn winder I opted to purchase an inexpensive one. This one is easy to put together and easy to use. There's a slight learning curve on how to hold the yarn when winding and when to stop winding. Wish it would hold a little more yarn as it was a little tight on the last yew yards. Well worth what I paid.

Works great well made but needs a little bit more Improvement
The yarnwinder Works in functions fantastically does have a metal crank metal C clamp to hold it down on a table but one thing it is lacking out-of-the-box is grease it is able to be taken apart in greased but definitely needs to be greased better than from the factory for a quite a bit of use it is a sturdy unit. The wife loves it uses it all the time.

Buy something else
The clamp for attaching the winder to a table is an awful design. As I tighten the clamp, the wonder squirts free from it. Yup. The clamp slides less than an inch into the body of the winder. This is only good for slowly winding as you carefully hold the winder. Not ideal..

Me encantó.
El material es muy bueno y resistente. Cumple con su función. Facil de usar. Llego a tiempo. Aparte de todo es muy bonito y práctico, se puede colocar en casi cualquier lugar. Lo único es que no hace ovillos extremadamente grandes. Pero es muy buena inversión.
