The mother-child bond is the most important relationship in the universe.
This is a tremendous story of the strength of the bond between a mother and son. This amazing bond developed many years after Joe's birth. The relationship between his birth parents defines the meaning of TRUE LOVE!!!! This is a great read. I can't wait for the movie!

Beautiful story
It is a beautiful story. I would have preferred not reading it as if it was a fictional love story and more like a biography.

The book wa fabulous! It made you reflect, cry, laugh, and just think!
I loved the story-line. It was even more special because it is a "true story". It is an inspiring story for those that have been adopted and considering finding their birth parents and the potential richness they might find at the end of that search. It is the story of love and how it can just happen so innocently, and how we can be creative in allowing it to unfold or blossom. It is a story of structure and family commitment, yet escapism. It is he story of discipline in studying hard to reach your goals and trusting in GOD as "He" talks to you. I cried when I read the book, and I laughed out-loud.The story-line and the writing were awesome - Lisa as the author and Joe as the story-teller did an awesome job in pulling this book together. I thoroughly enjoyed the book. Now my criticisms-- the font was too small for my visual needs- I would prefer a larger font. I love audible books because t allows you to dovetail, whilke enjoying a good book, and this book was not available in an "audible" format.I would love to see this book in a movie with Reese Witherspoon playing the role of Sister Sophie - she would be great!!!!

Riveting: A love story that transcends race, family, and societal expectations.
I absolutely loved the book from the beginning to the end. There was not a dull moment. I couldn't put it down. It was a love story starting with a black boy born to a white mother in the early 20th century, who refused to give up her child, and raised him with her white husband and children. This little boy grew to become a priest who studied at the Vatican and then became head priest at a parrish in upstate New York, where he falls in love with a white nun. Out of their love is born a child, Joe Steele, the narrator of this riveting story. This book is a movie in the making, a mesmerizing account of how love will find a way through seemingly insurmountable odds.

An insight into how matters were during that era
In general, was interesting story. I must say I wasn't surprised. These matters were rumored in the past. I did find it interesting that Sophie was surprised she was pregnant. I would have liked the story be written as a novel and not going back into the past. Otherwise, nice story.
