Shame on you Amazon
I am astonished to find that my one star review of this dreadful book when it first came out two years ago has now been expunged. This is the worst children's book I have ever encountered (I write as an author) and I would not subject my worst enemies to its horrors. Shame on you Amazon.

Absolutely Fabulous
Such creepy, but also sometimes comforting, stories of skeletons, mermen, princesses and more. Amazing diverse characters that I think all children, and adults, should see represented more in stories. It was wonderful getting to read stories from so many different cultures, and recognize themes and elements of stories/fairytales I have read before. The perfect October book (or any time of the year you want to re-create Halloween season).

Beautiful!
A real heirloom book from a writer who completely understands the magical mythos of the fairy tale and it’s darker origins. This is a sumptuous book, one to be kept and treasured. The stories are wonderfully told and the illustrations are gorgeous.

Just OK
This would have been better if each story was a bit more fleshed out. They felt rushed.

The disability and LGBTQ+ rep we need in fairy tale retellings!
I love this book. I first heard about it from instagram and then found Jen Campbell's youtube channel. After listening to her for a total of 5 minutes, I ordered this book because I so appreciate that it is an OWN Voices retelling of fairy tales with the disability rep that we need! I am so pleased to have this gorgeous copy in my possession. The naked hardback has the same print as the dust jacket, appropriately glimmering with gilt decorations and sinister, reflecting the nature of these tales. What I appreciate most about this book is the disability is just a part of the story; it is not the villain origin story, and it is not necessarily explained in every story. It is simply the state of being of some of these characters, which is how we disabled folk live! I also appreciated the queer rep!
