Know what you're getting into
Right off the bat I would recommend to the layman and expert alike, watch the YouTube video before buying these so you have an idea of what you're getting into. If the idea of completely disassembling your joycons makes you nervous then this might not be for you. I'm used to taking things apart and putting them back together but not so experienced with working with tiny electronic parts, having said that when you first get the shell off the joycons the task can seem daunting, but as long as you're careful, take your time and observe the video closely you should be fine. The screwdriver handle that's included seems more substantial than what's in the Amazon pictures but the actual triwing bit that fits into the handle leaves something to be desired. When using said bit be sure to apply adequate downward pressure on the screwdriver to ensure the teeth are engaging to avoid stripping the screws. Even having done that I still came close to stripping two or three screws, so buyer beware. Once you're past the shells the rest should be a tad easier as all internal screws are Phillips head. The quality of the shells are amazing. The internals fit everything identically to the originals, no modifying needed, nothing felt out of place. Even the original buttons all work with the new shells, and the new d-pad works great. The finish on the plastic seems almost identical to the original plastic and is very soft to the touch. Amazingly I didn't lose any screws but even if I had there are screws included in the kit, and the replacement Phillips head screws for the exterior are highly appreciated so I'll never have to mess with those annoying triwing screws ever again. Two things I didn't understand: 1. Why Nintendo didn't make joycons in a color that match the console. 2. Why there wasn't at least an option for joycons with a d-pad. Granted these are nitpicky issues but this solves both for me.

Its okay
++Update++So I went ahead and about 2x sets one read and one purple, again you need time and patients and steady hands to work on the really small micro size components again its not a full color its white with paint on it, not sure how long it will last, but i do like the D-pad, looks and feels solid only time will tell. I just wish the red and purple were just one more shade darker because sun light or white light 5k or more will make it look a shade lighterThe shell is white, but painted over. I don't know how long it will last, before it flakes cracks or rubs off, and apparently normal wear and tear is not covered in the 6 month warranty. This need lots of patience and steady hands because everything is delicate process too my 2hrs. This color is nice and its a Mario red color. All parts needed to install were included but delivery was late. I will consider buying another set for my other switch console.

Forget other shells, the quality here is outstanding.
I've done numerous shell replacements for my joy cons using a certain brand for the past two years, and i've never been satisfied. The molds were always off, creating gaps and creaky controllers, the plastic always felt cheap, no included tools, just overall poor, but I had no other option.EXtremerate is a godsend. These things feel absolutely amazing to hold, look even better and are so precisely molded that they're just leagues better than even nintendo's quality. I've bought 3 full shell replacements now and I can't go back, each one is gorgeous. The Dpad version is also excellent, again, too much better than every other dpad shell. Can't recommend these enough, really don't have a single flaw and they even include some great tools and screws to justify the price. Excellent in every way!

Excellent fitment
TLDR: perfect fit, good looks, excellent dpad. Better than basstop. The red on this shell is a bit more shiny looking in some lighting, sort of an incandescent effect. But it's not metallic and it maintains its red color. It doesnt have the same feel of the original joycons high quality plastic, but it doesnt feel cheap either. It has a soft powder coating type of feel, worried about coating longevity.I got the dpad variant, the dpad is more comfortable than the competitors, no sharp edges, feels like it's meant to be there.Build quality is almost perfect, but shes got it where it counts. In terms of fit, it all fits together perfectly, absolutely zero problem with it. Unlike the competition it's an actual joycon replacement without needing to make any mods. No unsightly seems, no creaking, it feels solid. Where it falls off is where the rail is, there is a small part that wasn't painted, potential point of future chipping, you wont see it though when you're holding the joycons or when they are docked.I only used the sl and sr buttons, the other included buttons feel a bit slick to me and I never intended on using them to begin with. This is not a very difficult install, people overreact a tiny bit. You only have to remove the shoulder button ribbon cable. The ribbon for this is robust enough (not as good as dualsense). You need tweezers, a plastic prying tool is not neccesary but makes life easier. Just take your time. This kit comes with like 8 spare springs which is awesome. My suggestion, use the included screw driver to remove the tri tip, the og screws are soft metal and the included screw driver is more gentle than a proper kit. After that use your own Phillip's, the included tool is not good. Do not remove the triggers and keep the same middle plate, it's only a small strip of color, not worth the spring hassles, the shoulder button springs are mostly stuck in place so you shouldn't need to re set those. When re assembling I suggest you use all the stock Nintendo screws on the inside, they are very good quality. For the last 4 shell screws I suggest you use the kit screws, these are higher quality and phillips.

Amazing quality and great looking 😎
Wow...Firstly, the overall feel of the joycon shells, compare to the original Nintendo ones is night and day! These have a really nice velvety feel which feels a lot nicer to hold. They are great quality and swapping out the shells isn't as complicated as it may seem! I'd encourage anyone reading this to try it for yourself! The D pad works really really well and makes playing games a lot smoother. No issues with these, wish I had more joycons to customise!Highly reccomend!

Better than expected.
Swapping to these from original Joycons is actually not too difficult, aslong as you have the right tools and the patience. It's a long process and took me about two hours to complete. I would recommend anyone wanting to use these have some tweezers and plastic prying tools handy, if you have these and follow along with videos you can find online you'll be just fine. The feel of them once on is very good the "soft plastic" has a nice grippy feel to them and the fit of the shells is good. The best part for me, personally is that I can finally have a dpad on my Joycons, and the dpad itself feels good, it's a huge improvement over dealing with the individual directional buttons, or worse using the analogue sticks for 2D games. Keep in mind though that if you choose a set with a dpad and you also sometimes use your joycons sideways it's going to be a bit weird for the player using the joycon that has a dpad. The only thing that's a concern for me how durable the painjob will be, the colour of the actual plastic is white underneath so it will definitely show through once the paint has worn. But anyway, will have to wait and see with that one. Obviously not a problem if you choose a clear shell. So, yeah, would recommend these, I'll definitely be buying some more myself.
