Q: it says that the battery only lasts 8 mintues. Is this true?

It's about 6-8 minutes, depending on a number of variables (wheels on or off, amount of wind, number of take offs, etc.). Also, it appears you have to use the new battery about 10 times (10 charge / discharge cycles) before you'll get close to that "8-minutes" of flight time.

Q: Has anyone else lost theirs that lifted off then flew vertical in an uncontrollable climb until out of sight?

It happened to me. If you only use it indoors it just hits the ceiling if it loses control. Setting its maximum height to be lower can help. If it is outdoors and out of bluetooth range it will probably get lost.

Q: How long does it take to charge?

I have no idea. Bought it, downloaded the app and the thing needs to be plugged into a computer to update! Had it for a few months and haven't been able to use it.
