Best thing since sliced bread. No fuss whatsoever when separating eggs. Worked out great!

I can see my Mom's chagrin at my unwillingness to pour the yolk from shell to shell over a bowl until I have just the yolk in one of the half shells. Well, this isn't the first time I'm glad I did not heed my mother's instructions. After my first (disastrous but funny and still quite yummy) attempt at my Grandmother's "Good, Good, Good" Coconut Cake -which is made in a tube pan, bakes for over two hours, and takes SIX eggs separated- I decided to buy an egg separator. Although I know my Grans and Mom used the completely FREE shell-to-shell method for over 50 years, I decided to be sinfully extravagant and splurge on a $6.99 separator (and mini whisk). Eureka! This is is a marvelous little gadget! The guilt is worth every one of those 699 pennies. I love the mini whisk too. Yes, Mom, I know I can just use a fork- which I have a drawer full of. When the white doesn't drop off straight away, just run your finger under the coil, and it will plop right in the bowl. Do this a couple times, and you will isolate that yolk brilliantly. Just as an aside, despite my Mom's former objections, if she needed to separate eggs, she would ask to borrow my separator- after I spent all that money, we need to get some use out of it.

Wire is thicker than I expected but still ok. Still recommend.

Finally an egg separator that actually works well. I love to cook custard and I am picky about separating and this one does it just right. Great investment and easy to use It separates so fast that I can whip through six eggs in a matter of minutes. Highly recommend!

This egg separator doesn't work. The egg whites will not go through the gaps in the coil but just hang there.
