Scarred: The Never After Series

Fun dark romance with lots of vengeance!
Read this after reading Hooked and I much preferred this one! Both Tristan and Sara are kind of unhinged and I’m here for it! I do love a murderous vengeful FMC. And the fact both Sara’s and Tristan’s revenge plans messed with each other was very satisfying! The story kept me gripped, although some of it was rather predictable, it was still a nice easy read. Some good dark spice but it’s a bit of a slower burn than Hooked!

A slow burner.... But well worth sticking with it.
Ok so a bit of a slow burner but after reading the first book my Emily hooked I was tempted. A few chapters in and I'm glad I stuck at it. A lot of jumping backwards and forwards which usually i don't like in books especially when I don't want to have to think too much but once you get into the main storyline and you start to understand the main characters quirks and what makes them tick the way they do then it gets good. The main male character is called Tristan and he has a very detailed back story. Until you delve right into it and read a few chapters in it's not exactly clear but I'm glad I stuck with it.Again the main female character Sara I found a bit plain, boring and quite.... well nice. And nice doesn't sit well with me usually. I like a female character with a bit of go and attitude. Gives women a stance. But again I'm glad I didn't judge too much and stuck with it because I fell for them, both as a strong couple together and as individual roles that they played in other characters lives not just theirs....Is it as good as the first? Well it's hard to say because at first I would have said no but as I got maybe 5-6 chapters in I did start to enjoy them.Hooked set a huge bench mark for this one as part of the series but yes in the end overall a good read. It may not be my immediate go to book but I wouldn't remove it from my library list.8/10 I think is fairI will read the next in the series because the author has more greats than misses and again only issue I had was it was a slow burner not my usual cup of tea

One of my favourite 🔥 retellings!
This is the second book in Emily’s, Never After Series and wowee, I loved it so much.I was immediately intrigued by Tristan. He is your classic morally grey MC, but there is also something endearing, sensitive and sweet about him. Sara, was a bad ass and I appreciated her loyalty to her family, even if it was wrongly placed. The angst and chemistry between these two, my goddddd. This was definitely a slow burn and some chapters were such a tease. The push and pull was brilliant and when we finally see them come together, it’s worth the wait 🥵 the ⛪️ scene is absolutely sinful and I loved it obviously.Such an interesting story and twist on one of my favourite fairytales! I love picking up on the fairytale references in Emily’s books, with this one being a nod towards Lion King 🦁 I enjoyed the short chapters and Emily’s writing style a lot, as I couldn’t put this book down. Can’t wait to continue with this series!*𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐜𝐤 𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐠𝐞𝐫 𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬*𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐫𝐞: dark romance𝐓𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐬: fairytale retelling, forbidden romance, enemies to lovers, royalty, virgin FMC, tortured hero, touch her & di3

A slow burn storyline...but worth it
This story is based off The Lion King and now Scar has a voice in the form of Tristan. The story was set in 1910, holding a more back in the day fairytale element and with the new king taking over the throne wanting to find a wife…all along the threat is just waiting in the dark ready to pounce.I absolutely lovedddd the Lion King themes, you can relate and follow the story with the characters and those golden elements that are woven throughout the storyline. But, I did struggle reading this story and I feel as though without the Lion King theme keeping me going I might put this to one side. The storyline was a little slow, some characters were hard to understand where they were leading to and even though it was a slow burn between the main love interest characters, and okay was in-keep made sense I just couldn’t connect to them.Until, everything that this story has been leading towards all gets revealed, things do progress and it is worth holding on to the end!
