It did spark if the gas was off but apparently it had weakened just enough to be insufficient. I unplugged it the old one and pressed it with the end against a finger on my other hand. Felt only the tiniest jolt so I bought this replacement. It was a quick swap and worked right away.

This is a perfect replacement for the piezo on my gas logs. It only took ten minutes to replacement the non functioning piezo. The gas log shop wanted $200 to come out and replace it. Did it myself for $16.

This is basically identical to the part it replaced, provides a spark for the pilot on a gas furnace.
