Swan Song for Claremont and Simonson
X-Men: X-Tinction Agenda is a nine part Marvel comic book crossover from 1990 featuring the top selling X-Titles of the day: Uncanny X-Men, X-Factor and New Mutants. The story returns to the island nation of Genosha and focuses on the kidnapping of several mutants and the resulting trial for alleged 'transgressions' against the state.Introduced some 40 issues before, Genosha is a thinly veiled stand-in for places like South Africa and Nazi Germany. Writers Chris Claremont and Louise Simonson use it as a vehicle to explore race relations and the dangers of segregation (and subjugation). You can't miss the social commentary; it's the driving force in an otherwise forgettable narrative. That doesn't made it bad, however. There are several moments throughout that will stick with you long after reading them. The artwork is also strong, particularly Jim Lee's work on X-Men and Rob Liefeld's work on New Mutants.Feeling editorial pressure to give Jim and Rob more freedom in the titles, perhaps Claremont and Simonson saw this as their last opportunity to leave their mark on the franchise. Both writers would leave their posts within a year, this being their final collaborative work after a long and successful tenure. Jim and Rob would also leave to form Image Comics, but not before shattering sales records and cementing X-Men as the publisher's top property. In the end, X-Tinction Agenda is aptly named: it represents a somewhat acrimonious passing of the torch to the young turks would work catapult the X-Brand into superstardom in the early 1990s.

Love it
Great content great pictures. Much better gift than a video game. Like to encourage reading! Perfect balance between traditional comics and satisfying the X-Men cravings!

Hardcover compliation review.
While techniques for inking and coloring have definitely changed, the art of storytelling hasn't. If these comic books came out when you were growing up or just starting to collect, this is a nostalgic must have. Simpler to store than the old comic books and considering the amount of these comics that were printed and are still Nm, a better investment as well.

Middle School Memories
Thanks to another Amazon reviewer (Bruno) for letting me know Marvel collected this edition and the two X-Men omnibuses which bookend the X-Tinction Agenda hardcover. This crossover storyline between Uncanny X-Men, the New Mutants, and X-Factor is still as great as when I was in middle school riding my bike to 7-Eleven to pick up the crossover series, because my dad wouldn't drive me all the way to the nearest comic book shop, which was too far for me to bike over to. Plus now I have it in hardcover, which never happened way back when I was in grade school. This title and the two Chris Claremont and Jim Lee X-Men Omnibuses are my favorites in the book shelf! Thanks.

In love
Was expecting a "used - acceptable" copy of my book, and was surprisingly shock how "new" this book was. Love it.

Great story, uneven execution
I read this crossover event when it first ran through the issues of Uncanny X-Men, X-Factor and New Mutants. The storyline is good and Marvel was good enough to include the original 4 part story that introduced Genosha in Uncanny X-Men. Chris Claremont is at his finest and Jim Lee's art in the Uncanny books is just simply amazing. And then you have Louise Simonson. Hated her writing back then, hated it when I re-read the HC. Louise Simonson writes dialogue like she was writing for a radio teleplay... completely over the top and unlike any human being would speak. An example that just had me wretching; "Hodge, why have you brought that alien creature here, where I create the mutates who provide for Genosha's well being?" Really? Simply campy and awful. And the bad news is that she is writing 6 out of the 9 issues of the crossover. Mainly this book has made me look forward to the upcoming Claremont/Lee Omnibuses that are coming out in a few months. What if the Louise Simonson issues were written by someone capable? I guarantee you, with a story this strong this could be remembered up there with "Dark Phoenix Saga" and "Days of Future Past" if only Marvel had allocated the proper talent.

GENIAL!
